Press release:
20 FEBRUARY 2020 – Developers, Logic Ember Limited are today very happy to announce that they have just released their creative puzzle platformer “Backworlds” for PC via Steam (“Backworlds” has been in development for over 10-years).

A new launch trailer has been released to accompany the announcement giving players a glimpse into the multi-dimensional world industry veterans, Anders Ekermo and Juha Kangas have worked so hard to create.

Backworlds is an inventive logic puzzle/platformer game in which players explore and progress by painting the environments around them. Move between two parallel worlds, each with its own unique set of properties, using your brush to flow seamlessly from one to the other.

Solve environmental conundrums by using each world’s physical properties to your advantage, and use your own creativity to craft original solutions to the game’s puzzles.

Ekermo (who worked as a graphics programmer on The Darkness, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and StarCraft 2) and Kangas (one of the level designers for Syndicate) began working on Backworlds as a side project in 2009.

The game was recently selected for Indie Megabooth at PAX in 2018 & 2019 and an earlier version of the game was nominated for multiple awards back in 2012.

Developer, Anders Ekermo said: “Backworlds was inspired by indie game pioneers in 2008 and 2009 – we wanted to make a game with unique mechanics, one that allowed the player to be creative in a world of hand-drawn art.

The games industry has changed a lot since then and Backworlds with it, but it has always been about the joy of solving a good puzzle.”

Backworlds releases on Steam today priced $9.99 / £7.19 / €8.19 including a 20% launch discount for the next week.

About Backworlds
Backworlds is a multi-dimensional puzzle platform game in which you explore by painting. Move between two parallel worlds, each with its own unique set of properties, using your brush to flow seamlessly from one to the other.

Solve environmental conundrums by using each world’s physical properties to your advantage, and use your own creativity to craft original solutions to the game’s puzzles.

Ten years in the making, featuring a gorgeous hand-painted art style and proprietary engine technology, Backworlds aspires to bring player freedom to the puzzle genre.

About Logic Ember
Logic Ember was founded by Juha Kangas and Anders Ekermo, a pair of games industry veterans whose combined game design and engineering credits include The Darkness, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, Syndicate and StarCraft II, as well as a variety of indie projects. The pair operate as a fluid team, both contributing to game design, art, and programming.

For Backworlds, Kangas and Ekermo have teamed up with sound designer Chris Randle (Volume, Subsurface Circular) and BAFTA-nominated composer David Housden (Thomas Was Alone, Q.U.B.E. 2) to ensure the game is as much a feast for the ears as it is for the eyes and the mind.
