Press release:
Copenhagen, Denmark – March 16, 2021.
The Sweden-based video game publisher and indie games developer Coffee Stain Publishing, together with the Danish indie games developer Ghost Ship Games, are today very proud and happy to announce that their space dwarf mining FPS”Deep Rock Galactic” has just been nominated for a BAFTA and two SXSW awards:
The nominations come in the wake of the game having rounded more than 2 million players earlier this year and has celebrated its 3 year anniversary with activities for all players and live streams with the developers.
Deep Rock Galactic was launched by Swedish Coffee Stain Studios on PC and Xbox in the spring of 2018 as a game under continuous development (Early Access/Game Preview) where the game’s development took place in collaboration with the players who have had the opportunity to influence the game through active feedback.
“We are incredibly honored by the nominations. Deep Rock Galactic has become a much bigger success than we had dared to hope for. It is also good to see a Danish-developed game get such great recognition from international awards. Danish game development has an incredible amount to offer and we hope it will be more visible with these nominations.”, says Søren Lundgaard, director and co-founder of the Danish developer Ghost Ship Games.
The game has had increasing success since its introduction with more than a hundred thousand daily players to this day, and was officially released in a full version last year. However, the further development of the game has not stopped despite the game being described as fully launched and the active community with the players still continues with new and frequent updates to the game.
“Deep Rock Galactic is basically about having fun collaborating with other players. That’s why it’s so cool that the game has been nominated for being a good multiplayer game, and in a way it’s the greatest honor but getting nominated for Best Indie Games is not so bad either!”, says Mikkel Martin Pedersen, game instructor and co-founder of Ghost Ship Games.
Deep Rock Galactic is an online shooting game where up to four players work together as a team of space dwarves digging for valuable minerals on a deadly planet far out in space. The game is sold as a so-called Premium game, which means that users buy the game once and then get all further developed content for free. With 97% of all reviews being positive, the game is one of the best reviewed multiplayer games ever and has over 100,000 users daily and has been translated into 20 different languages.
The 2021 BAFTA Games Awards will be held digitally on March 25 digitally where the winners will be announced. The SXSW Gaming Awards 2021 will also be held digitally in conjunction with SXSW Online 2021, where the winners will be announced on March 20th.
