Press release:
SUNNYVALE, CA – June 27, 2023.
The Sunnyvale-based (CA, the US) indie games publisher and developer Sirlin Games, are today super thrilled and glad to announce that their fighting/trading card game “Yomi 2” (the sequel to the first “fighting card game” from “Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix” and “Fantasy Strike” lead designer David Sirlin), is now available for PC via Early Access through Steam and EGS.
Choose a fighter from an expressive roster of nine characters (with more to come), and explore each fighter’s individual movesets from above a digital card playmat. Draw a hand of moves and start strategizing before the round even starts. Interrupt slow overhead attacks with quick jabs, score a knockdown to set up an offensive as they stand back up, and dodge grabs to counterattack with a combination of card plays leading to a cinematic, high-damage finisher.
Read opponents and play around their player habits with character-driven mechanics fueled by fighting game systems like combos, frame data, attack priority, special cancels, and much more — or simply pick a favorite character by virtue of them wielding a paintbrush for a weapon. Prevent opponents from spamming fireballs by closing the distance, be ever-mindful of the looming threat that is a grappler’s command grab, and learn how to navigate around matchups to lean into character strengths for an easy win.
Augment special moves with one of six gems and shift reality with a momentum-swinging assault to storm an opponent’s defenses in various ways. Master a character and improve with each fight offline in the single-player Career mode that pits players against hundreds of the most colorful personalities the city has to offer. Train in the lab to practice combos and test newfound tactics in one-off versus CPU battles.
Compete in a brand new competitive environment built from the ground up to highlight the tension of taking turns. Queue up to fight others via matchmaking in synchronous multiplayer modes, including both ranked and casual play, or enjoy locally with pass-and-play. Asynchronous multiplayer, allowing players to play multiple matches at once while waiting for their next turn, will launch later in Early Access.
Beyond serving as a way to finalize the digital game, Yomi 2’s Early Access period aims to develop and balance a future physical tabletop card game with the same rules and mechanics as its virtual counterpart.
“Feedback is critically important to us,” said David Sirlin, President and Founder, Sirlin Games.
“We want to get Yomi 2 into the hands of its passionate playerbase now to help shape discussions of the future as you can’t really patch a physical card game post-launch. Our community deserves to be heard, and we’re so excited to balance the digital game in tandem with player feedback to fully realize the finalized, physical card game to come.”
Yomi 2 is now available in Early Access for PC, Mac, and Steam Deck via Steam and Epic Games Store for $24.99. For more information on Yomi 2, follow developer Sirlin Games on Twitter.
