Live orchestral soundtrack and piano selections for charming fossil-collecting indie game by Reptoid Games now available via Materia Collective.
Press release:
SEATTLE – June 25, 2018 – Materia Collective is excited to make available the highly-anticipated Fossil Hunters (Original Game Soundtrack) composed by Robby Duguay. The whimsical and charming soundtrack combines live orchestra and a team of distinguished soloists on piano and percussion. Fossil Hunters (Original Game Soundtrack) is available today wherever digital music is sold:
Fossil Hunters (Original Game Soundtrack) on Bandcamp
Fossil Hunters (Original Game Soundtrack) on iTunes
“When I started working on the music for Fossil Hunters, I was thinking a lot about Super Mario World, Indiana Jones, Monster Hunter, and Saint Saens’s ‘Danse Macabre,'” explains composer Robby Duguay. “The Indiana Jones and Monster Hunter influences in particular are heard in the main theme. I play brass instruments, so even before we got the Budapest Scoring Symphonic Orchestra involved I was going to perform all the parts myself. The last piece of the puzzle was to reinforce the percussive nature of the digging and sweeping of the gameplay, so I used a lot of percussion in the score.”
Fans will enjoy the adventurous “Fossil Hunters Main Theme” with its heavy use of horns and references to the various themes from the rest of the game like the overture in a classic stage show. The dark and mysterious “Fungi” features ride cymbal played by Robby Duguay with coffee stir sticks as mallets to give as light of a performance as possible alongside a custom pop bottle instrument. Live piano renditions of each theme are performed by Trevor Alan Gomes when the player pauses the game in a given area.
