Press release:
Tuesday, March 5, 2024 (Montréal, Canada).
The Montréal-based (Québec, Canada)independent game development studio Red Barrels, are today extremely excited and happy to announce that the full version (v1.0) of their co-op survival horror game “The Outlast Trials”, is now available PC (via Steam) and consoles (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One) via digital stores.
The Outlast Trials “V1” release today is the culmination of invaluable player feedback received since its Early Access launch on PC in May 2023, with over 1.6 million copies sold worldwide. From fresh content and significant enhancements, new Trials and character customization options, weekly challenges, controller support, and cross-play between PC, PlayStation and Xbox gamers, Red Barrels has continually evolved what was already a terrifying survival horror experience.
About The Outlast Trials
It’s 1959, and the trans-national Murkoff Corporation is using a recruitment agency to identify potential test subjects to turn into the perfect sleeper agents. These “Reagents” are forced to undergo terrible physical and psychological trials, until they have been conditioned for perfect obedience and are ready to be released back into society, waiting to be triggered at an opportune time.
Players take on the role of one of these untrained civilians, and can fully customize their look, as well as their cells in the Sleep Room – the area where Reagents can meet the unique denizens, unwind in between Murkoff’s harrowing experiments, or face off against other test subjects with chess or arm wrestling.
A Word from the Red Barrels Team:
“Outlast has always been about survival despite overwhelming horror. You may just barely make it out alive, but you’ll never be the same again. For The Outlast Trials, we asked ourselves: ‘What if players were trapped in the horror together?’
“It was a long journey to deliver that experience at the level of quality Red Barrels demands. We needed to make something scary, thrilling, funny, and shocking. We needed to make something players could enjoy either alone or with friends. And we needed to make something players could return to again and again. We hope you enjoy and suffer our nightmare.”

About Outlast
Hell is an experiment you can’t survive in Outlast; a first-person survival horror game series developed by veterans of some of the biggest game franchises in history. Critically acclaimed for its immersive atmosphere, sound design and full-frontal scares, the series soon became the leading horror game experience of its generation. The rules of the Outlast universe are simple – run, hide or die trying.
Outlast, the original release, begins with an intriguing anonymous tip that leads you to explore the dark heart of Mount Massive Asylum, home to the secret experiments of the Murkoff Corporation. Whistleblower, the DLC continuation, tells the backstory to the atrocities found in Outlast and stretches past the events of the first game to show the final bloody chapter in Mount Massive Asylum’s story. Outlast 2 places you deep in the wilderness where you discover the residents of Temple Gate and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.
