What is Fighting Fantasy?

Created by Ian Livingstone & Steve Jackson, Fighting Fantasy are part book, part game. Armed only with the book, a pencil and paper and some dice, YOU choose which path to follow, what items to take, who you meet and who you battle!

The Fighting Fantasy range of adventure gamebooks debuted in 1982 and sold over 18 million copies worldwide. What started with ‘The Warlock of Firetop Mountain’ spawned over 60 adventures. As we approach the 35th anniversary, their legacy is as strong today as it’s ever been.

Who is Ian Livingstone?

Ian Livingstone CBE is one of the UK’s most celebrated and successful entrepreneurs in the world of books and games. Co-founder of the Games Workshop retail chain, he helped bring Dungeons & Dragons to UK shores before creating the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks with Steve Jackson. In the mid 1990’s, Ian oversaw the merger between Domark Ltd and Eidos that created the publishing powerhouse that gave birth to the Tomb Raider phenomenon.

Outside of games, Ian co-wrote a review in 2011 that changed how computing is now taught in UK schools, encouraging the next generation to understand how computers work and teach them the fundamentals of computer programming. He is also involved in various organisations and in various roles including Founder of The Livingstone Foundation, Chairman of a number of Limited companies, Chair of various councils and committees, as well as being a member of the Creative Industries Council, Trustee of GamesAid and an Adviser to the British Council.
