The Quebec City-based (Canada) indie games developer Excellent Rectangle today announced with great thrill and joy that they are going to release a brand-new time-limited demo for their upcoming roguelite hockey game “Tape to Tape” on February 3rd, 2023 (the said demo will be available for PC via Steam during the 2023 February edition of Steam Next Fest).

Wield the ultimate pair of blades and hit the ice! Excellent Rectangle is cross-checking the hockey genre into shape with Tape to Tape, a roguelite simcade hockey experience. Whip up a group of misfit chumps into legendary champs on an icy cool quest to the major leagues.

Be the first to take up sticks, bribe a ref or two, and sling out brutal chirps with a brand new demo debuting during Steam Next Fest on February 3rd.

Take charge of a ragtag group of hockey players in a roguelite journey to the major leagues. As the newly appointed captain, every choice matters on the path to victory.

Hire future superstars throughout the season, utilize the synergy found between players, and harness ruthless abilities, all in favor of crafting an unbeatable team.

Easier said than done, as the ultimate dream team doesn’t appear out of thin air. Use losses as an opportunity to visit the mighty Blademaster in between seasons and permanently upgrade equipment for the battles ahead. When the Center is still flubbing every single face-off, there’s no shame in lining the ref’s pockets with some sweet “maple syrup.”

Combining modern precision with fast-paced 90s-inspired action, Tape to Tape features a unique battle system in the form of a balanced simcade hockey experience. Bone-crushing body checks and stellar saves will keep players shaking in their skates, but mastering the dynamic puck physics system will secure the victory.

Players and goalies will react to the puck bouncing off sticks and ricocheting off faces creating organic and emergent battles on the ice. Thankfully, there is no penalty when a tooth is lost.

Prepare to light the lamp with a pack of hosers when Tape to Tape launches in 2023. Players eager to meet the Blademaster and take a slapshot at victory can do so in the brand new demo debuting during Steam Next Fest. In the meantime, it’s best to obey the refs. Excellent Rectangle is a small independent studio launched by a team of three sports fanatics with a shared passion for innovative and visually unique video games.

The studio was founded in October 2020 by Hugo Julien, who was convinced to leave his public service employee’s pension plan to make games by his lifelong acolytes Jean-Nicolas and Mathieu Fortin.
