Press release:
North Carolina, US – October 6th, 2026 – Brainfruit Studio today unveiled their brand-new video game, Sheeps. This unique, high-res pixel art roguelike supercharges the drowsy act of sheep-counting, with a fiendishly ramping difficulty that keeps players on high alert. The game is set to release in 2027 on PC, Mac, and SteamOS devices.
Sheeps promises to leave players questioning their ability to count for the first time since kindergarten. Health mechanics, upgrades and the occasional unfair curse lend the game a robust progression system with endless replayability. The game also features a deep, story-rich narrative that lets players unpack the mystery of where all these sheep came from in the first place, and who (or what) is behind the fearsome rift from which they emerge.
A cast of quirky animal characters – created by artist Garrett Miller and Emmy-winning writer Rob Dubbin (The Colbert Report, The Late Show) – accompanies players, each with their own stories, secrets and agendas. Players will meet a crafty spider, a sarcastic crow, a dye-obsessed chameleon and a suspicious number of business llamas offering help… for a price.
“With Sheeps, we at Brainfruit feel we have finally solved wakefulness,” says Dubbin, who also Co-Directed the game.
“Think of all the hours you weren’t counting sheep before, because it would have been disastrous to fall asleep at your job, or in mid-conversation. Thanks to the high-octane counting action of Sheeps, that problem will soon be a thing of the past.”
“Counting sheep sounds simple until they start flying, doubling back, and throwing little surprises at you.” says Garrett Miller, Co-Director, who spent his youth on a working farm counting actual sheep.
“We wanted to take this elementary skill that everyone thinks they understand and turn it into a deep, chaotic and endlessly fun game that anyone can pick up and play.”
Whether playing solo or with a friend (via couch co-op or a bounty of competitive mini-games), Sheeps inevitably encourages lively debate over the true count of each successive wave. It’s all set to a charming soundtrack by composer and producer Nick Sylvester (Channel Tres, Mø) that transitions from soothing lullabies into frantic breakbeats as the counting madness unfolds.
Sheeps will launch in 2027 on PC, Mac, and SteamOS. Players can now add the game to their wishlist on Steam, join the official Discord, follow Brainfruit Studio on Bluesky, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Linkedin, and visit the Brainfruit website for more information.
About Brainfruit Studio
Brainfruit is an independent creative studio with a full spectrum of interests and a singular focus on entertainment. Founded in 2025 by veterans of late-night TV writers’ rooms and powerhouse software companies, we channel high-production, big-audience muscle into work that is playful, tactile, and pointed. We want you to have fun and feel something because we believe those are the two major components of a memorable experience. We also work on several projects at once… partially to reach people in every corner of our fragmented media landscape, but also it’s just how our heads work. Last year, we released Starfriends, our 5-star card game about what everyone else thinks. Our upcoming projects are the soon-to-be-released MOSS Studio (a magical sketchpad for iPhone and iPad) and Sheeps, a comedy roguelike game for Steam.
