Press release:
Leipzig, Germany –April 27, 2023.
The Leipzig-based (German) indie games publisher and developer Actrio Studio are today very glad and thrilled to announce that they have just launched a Kickstarter campaign for their VR ocean adventure/sim “The Great Ocean”.
Indie game developer and publisher Actrio Studio has announced that their Kickstarter campaign that started in celebration of Earth Day to fund
The Great Ocean for Steam, has nearly reached 50% of its goal already. Also today the game was presented at the event ‘games meet UBA’ at the German Federal Environment Agency.
In The Great Ocean you dive into an adventure of the earth’s oceans to real ocean locations, solving real problems and having real life impact for NGOs that collaborated on the game.
Experience and explore the fascinating waters in your high-tech ROV visiting areas like the Galapagos, the Arctic or the Deep Sea and use your upgradeable tools to solve quests when you discover sunken WW2 battleships or strange creatures in the deep.
Swim with majestic whales, sharks and sea turtles and take action to save the oceans. Missions in each level are based around exploration and discovery of e.g. real sunken submarines (the russian ‘Kursk’), WW2 battleship wrecks, Deep Sea creatures or Caribbean coral reefs. You will also encounter the giants and living wonders of the oceans and learn more about this unique, beautiful, and threatened world – and you can check it out in detail in the laboratory.
Your missions let you take action to help the underwater world by freeing or healing fish, building new coral reefs, removing trash, and gathering evidence for crimes against the Ocean Health. With each completed mission you contribute to protect and save the oceans. Featuring hours of gameplay with a personal story, great interaction, and challenging quests with a global leaderboard, you are challenged to explore the oceans and to go where no person has gone before.
And you can also have a positive impact to improve Ocean Health by supporting NGOs that collaborated on making the game. For example, rrreefs, which is a ETH Zurich Spin-off, founded and run by women who use science, art, and education who are rethinking, rebuilding, and regenerating coral reefs with an award-winning modular system of 3D-printed rrreef bricks, made with pure clay.
Or the Mare Nostrum non-profit Foundation that was established in Quito, Ecuador, with a mandate to create practical and lasting solutions for the protection of our oceans, focusing on Marine Pollution, Overfishing, and Climate Change. Their research on using new tech to reduce bycatch of sea turtles is groundbreaking.
The Crowdfundung campaign for the closing funding of the extended PC VR Version will add more exciting features and content such as a ship with a holo-deck and a Metaverse lecture hall, upgraded and improved tools, new quest types, 50 more species of fish, in addition to many other enhancements and improvements.
