In the three days since its launch on Friday 12th May, “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” for Nintendo Switch has sold over 10 million units worldwide, becoming the fastest-selling game in the Legend of Zelda series.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is also Europe’s fastest-selling game for Nintendo Switch, and the fastest-selling Nintendo game for any system in Europe.
“In its seventh year, Nintendo Switch momentum continues strongly, as this record-breaking launch shows,” said Nintendo of Europe President, Stephan Bole.
“We’re so grateful for the support of fans for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and are truly looking forward to seeing their adventures and creations as they journey into Hyrule.”
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In the game, players decide their own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and on the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Discover new destinations, dangers, sights and puzzles that require wits and resourcefulness to overcome. Harnessing the power of Link’s new abilities, players will fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda series of action-adventure games started over 35 years ago with the original The Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987*1. As the heroic Link, Players go on to an adventure battling foes and discovering hidden mysteries in vast fields and dungeons. As of March 2023, the series has sold more than 130 million units worldwide.
More than 10 million copies of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom were sold worldwide in the first three days, making it the fastest-selling game in the Legend of Zelda series. It is also Europe’s fastest-selling game for Nintendo Switch, and Europe’s fastest-selling Nintendo game for any system.
