Press release:
New York, New York, March 19, 2021.
Digital entertainment studio Maze Theory, in partnership with BBC Studios, are today announcing that “Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins“, a narrative-driven cryptic ‘found-phone’ adventure game, is now available in the US on iOS, Android (both $3.99) and Steam ($5.99).

Developed by the award-winning studio Kaigan Games (SIM, SIMULACRA, SIMULACRA 2), and part of the Official Selection for London Games Festival 2021, Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins builds upon the events of iconic Doctor Who episode ‘Blink’, which first aired in 2007 during season three.

Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins transports players into a dark mystery amidst a series of sinister events occurring at Wester Drumlins…

A chance encounter with a discarded phone on the streets of London will ignite a thrilling adventure as the Player receives an urgent call from ex-UNIT scientist Petronella Osgood (played by Ingrid Oliver). With whispers of a returning and terrifying menace, will you be able to aid her and uncover the truth?

Shot on location in London and Cardiff, Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins blends live-action footage with open-ended puzzle gameplay, letting players explore a virtual phone to uncover clues and solve a dark mystery. Answer calls, read messages and view videos to build a compelling case of the true events transpiring at Wester Drumlins.

The game is out now on iOS and Android devices and Steam and will be coming to Nintendo Switch at a later date, more news on which will be announced on the Maze Theory Twitter page.

Ingrid Oliver (Petronella Osgood) said: “As a massive fan of the mobile-games medium and Blink it’s been incredible to work on Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins, exploring its unique integration of a live-action story with a videogame. Stepping back into Osgood’s lab coat was a fantastic experience and I can’t wait for players to join me as part of UNIT in taking on the Weeping Angels together!”

Russell Harding, Maze Theory’s Studio Director said:

“Working with BBC Studios and Kaigan Games, we have managed to create an entirely new experience for mobile gamers and Doctor Who fans. The Blink episode is heralded as one of the greatest of all time, with levels of mystery and intrigue perfect for the mobile platform. We are delivering boundary breaking entertainment! And we are incredibly excited to see how players respond.”

Kevin Jorge, Senior Producer, BBC Studios said: “We’re always striving to create games that allow our fans to further immerse themselves in, and engage with the Doctor Who universe. In The Lonely Assassins Maze Theory and Kaigan have crafted a found phone game that seamlessly combines fan-favorite characters, iconic storylines and terrifying enemies into a new innovative genre of storytelling. We really hope the fans enjoy the experience, just don’t blink!
