Press release:
SEPTEMBER 9th, 2022.
The Connecticut-based (the US) indie games developer Dead Drop Studios are today very proud and happy to announce that their upcoming old-school survival horror game “Outbreak: Shades of Horror” (which is the next entry in their long-running “Outbreak” series), is now fully funded via Kickstarter! (“Outbreak: Shades of Horror” managed to reach its Kickstarter goal in just EIGHT days)

Inspired by the classic title Resident Evil: Outbreak, Dead Drop Studio’s Outbreak: Shades of Horror, will be a major step forward for the franchise as the two-person team plans to use the funding to work with talented artists, animators, designers and more who share their passion for classic survival horror.

With their initial funding goal achieved, Dead Drop Studios can now begin rolling out their stretch goals, meaning that Shades of Horror can become an even bigger project with additional goodies to grab people’s interest like cross-platform multiplayer, Ironman mode, and additional content like Operation: Rabid Wolf, as well as the Dinobreak expansion pack.

Since 2017, Dead Drop Studios has released seven highly ambitious Outbreak games on shoestring budgets. Driven by a true passion and appreciation for classic survival horror, the duo came to Kickstarter to appeal to survival horror fans everywhere in order to step up their studio and deliver high-quality titles for PC and next gen consoles, preserving what their fans love, while investing in upgrades across the board!

Many Survival Horror titles put players in the shoes of a highly trained operative able to navigate apocalypse scenarios with a veritable arsenal of weapons, gear, and special training. But what ever happened to the average everyday citizens desperately trying to survive the zombie apocalypse? Outbreak: Shades of Horror will feature a fully fleshed out campaign story mode that supports single player, online/local co-op, so that players can experience the horror in the way that suits them.

To give players a taste of the project to come, Dead Drop Studios released an atmospheric demo to showcase the world of Outbreak. The demo is currently available for free across Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and Google Stadia.

Evan & Julia Wolbach, co-founders of Dead Drop Studios, said: “We are in awe of the tremendous support from our community of survivors! We feel so privileged to be able to develop Shades of Horror for them and bring retro style gaming to next-gen consoles.
We are over the moon that the style of gaming we grew up with will be available for a new generation to learn and enjoy.”

Outbreak: Shades of Horror is a love letter to the thought-provoking, nerve-shattering titles of the golden age of survival horror in the late 1990s and early 2000s like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Players who loved that classic experience of managing supplies, solving puzzles, and choosing whether to fight or flee the undead will appreciate what Dead Drop Studios aims to capture in this exciting new title.
