Pocketpair Publishing, the publishing label of Pocketpair, Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa, Tokyo; CEO: Takuro Mizobe), is pleased to announce that the Puzzle Action RPG CASSETTE BOY, developed by Tokyo-based Wonderland Kazakiri inc., will be released on January 15, 2026. A new trailer for the game has also been released.

CASSETTE BOY has already garnered significant attention in the Japanese indie game scene. In addition to being nominated for the Visual Excellence Award and winning the Grand Prize at the BitSummit Awards 2024, it has been featured in the “Selected Indie 80” at Tokyo Game Show 2024.

･ A Unique Puzzle-Action RPG Created by a Solo Developer

CASSETTE BOY is the latest title from Wonderland Kazakiri inc., a small studio based in Akihabara, Tokyo. While the team typically works on web design and system development, it also creates indie games on the side. For this project, Mr. Honda handled everything from planning, programming, art and audio, bringing CASSETTE BOY to life as a solo project.

At its core, CASSETTE BOY blends puzzle mechanics with classic RPG elements to deliver a satisfying main adventure.

Players looking to explore beyond the story will find a variety of optional content as well. The game includes mini-games playable on in-game “devices,” as well as procedurally generated dungeons found in specific locations. These activities add depth and replayability, offering a richer experience for those who enjoy venturing off the beaten path.

This famous quote, often attributed to Einstein, questions the strange nature of quantum mechanics. Inspired by this idea, CASSETTE BOY is a puzzle action RPG set in a world where things cease to exist when they can’t be seen.

Explore this mysterious world, confront its bizarre puzzles and creatures, and manipulate “existence” itself to uncover the truth!

◼️Twist and Rotate the World

At first glance, CASSETTE BOY looks like a simple pixel-art game. But there’s much more beneath the surface. What appears to be a 2D world is actually 3D, and what is visible (or not) can be changed by rotating the world.

To solve puzzles, you’ll need to twist and rotate the map to change your perspective. For example, if something is hidden behind a wall and can’t be seen, it simply doesn’t exist. You’ll advance the game by hiding obstacles out of sight or revealing secret paths.

But this is more than just a puzzle game. You’ll also collect weapons, and battle monsters and bosses.

◼️Choose what Exists with the “Schrödinger System”

The state of matter is only defined once you observe it.

In CASSETTE BOY, the “Schrödinger System” ensures that anything you can’t see simply doesn’t exist. That person you just spoke to? The switch you were about to press? If they leave the screen, they’re gone.

Ordinary camera movement becomes the key to solving mind-bending puzzles.
