Press release:
January 20th, 2026.
MicroProse and Strategos Games are today very happy to announce that their real-time tactics wargame, ‘Strategos’, is now available via Steam Early Access.
Designed for players seeking historically grounded, mechanically deep battles, Strategos places command—not reflexes—at the center of warfare. From the Hoplite armies of the Persian Wars to the legions of Rome and the forces of the Hellenistic world, players take control of vast formations where morale, terrain, fatigue, and leadership determine victory or defeat.
At Early Access launch, Strategos delivers a substantial and fully playable experience, offering multiple ways to engage with its tactical systems—from historical campaigns to fully customizable skirmishes.
Available Now in Early Access
Players can immediately access:
⚔️ Historical Campaigns
Command armies across defined theaters of war, beginning with Sicily during the First Punic War, with additional campaigns planned throughout Early Access.
🗺️ Skirmish Mode with Full Battle Customization
Create custom battles by selecting factions, eras, army sizes, terrain, deployment rules, AI behavior, and difficulty.
🏛️ Nearly 120 Playable Factions
Lead forces from across the ancient Mediterranean and beyond, including Greek city-states, Hellenistic kingdoms, Rome, Carthage, Persian empires, and tribal confederations.
🪖 Over 250 Unique Units
Infantry, cavalry, skirmishers, and specialist troops modeled across different cultures and historical periods.
⚙️ Deep Real-Time Tactical Warfare
Formation-based combat featuring morale shocks, disorder, pursuit, routing, flanking, fog of war, terrain effects, and advanced command-and-control mechanics.
A Living Battlefield
Armies in Strategos do not simply fight—they react. Units break, pursue, flee, and recover based on battlefield conditions and leadership. Orders must be managed carefully through generals and command ranges, rewarding foresight and positioning over micromanagement.
Availability
Strategos is available now in Early Access on Steam.
Players can begin commanding the armies of classical antiquity today.
Early Access marks the foundation of Strategos, with additional campaigns, units, scenarios, and refinements planned as development continues.
