Press release:
Hyderabad, India | This week, publisher 1312 Interactive and developer Monotusk Studios announced that the award-winning story-driven title, Palm Sugar: A Village Story, will be released on August 12, 2026, on Windows PC. Palm Sugar: A Village Story is a story-driven pixel RPG rooted in South Indian culture that tells a dark tale of romance and strife, with unforgettable characters and beautiful pixel-art landscapes.

Palm Sugar: A Village Story puts players in the shoes of Seenu, a sharp-tongued, quick-witted, yet awkward young hero, who lives in the quaint village of Bellampakam. The peaceful life and dreams of courting his sweetheart are quickly overturned after a brutal drug cartel overruns his home, forcing Seenu to embark on an epic personal journey and fight to take it back, whilst exploring the beautiful backdrop of South India and experiencing the culture of its people.

The world of Palm Sugar: A Village Story has Seenu wielding a variety of weapons native to rural life, ranging from sticks to slingshots, as players outsmart their opponents on their quest to save the village. Seenu will meet a colorful cast of characters in dialogue-rich encounters, where he can express his humor, sarcasm, heart, and maybe even win the girl of his dreams. The cartel, on the other hand, are not weak to Seenu’s charms, so players must practice caution in their quest to liberate Bellampakam.

Palm Sugar: A Village Story Key Features

A Narrative-Driven Story: Play as Seenu and set out on a personal quest to take back his idyllic village from a ruthless drug cartel

Embrace South Indian Culture: Experience the rich and lively world of South India, meeting its charming locals and exploring its beautiful landscapes

Wield Native Weapons: Use rural weaponry to fight back against the drug cartel, including sticks, axes, and slingshots that pack a punch

Unravel Challenging Puzzles: Overcome scenarios through puzzle solving, such as trading items with characters to continue progressing through the story

Gorgeous Pixel Art Graphics: See the world of Palm Sugar: A Village Story through beautifully rendered pixel art, as each frame beams with secrets to discover

A Heartfelt South Indian Infused Soundtrack: Soak up the beats, as the soundtrack of Palm Sugar: A Village Story invokes the rich sounds of South India’s villages

“We are beyond excited to be bringing Palm Sugar: A Village Story to players all around the world this August,” said game director Kartheek Raj.

“South Indian culture is steeped in a dense history, filled with beautiful and engaging stories. With Palm Sugar, we want to deliver a story to a Western audience who may be experiencing our history for the first time. Even outside of that, we are confident the story of Seenu will resonate with everyone, as they set off on a journey of self-discovery, redemption, and personal growth.”

Palm Sugar: A Village Story will be released on Windows PC (via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store) on August 12, 2026. A demo is available to download and play on Steam.
