Press release:
SKÖVDE, Sweden – Jan. 26, 2021.
The Sweden-based video game publisher and indie games developer Coffee Stain Publishing are today very happy and proud to announce that their space dwarf mining FPS “Deep Rock Galactic” has now sold over two million units since its release back in 2019 for PC (via Steam) and Xbox.
Since launching out of Early Access in May last year, co-op FPS “Deep Rock Galactic” has gone from strength to strength, with sales figures tripling since 2019.
Featuring at #1 on Steam’s best sellers list multiple times throughout 2020, Coffee Stain Publishing and Ghost Ship Games today announced that the game has surpassed two million sales across PC and Xbox.
Across Steam alone in 2020, the game had an average of 46,300 daily active players. With more than 300,000 people playing Deep Rock Galactic on Steam each month, the user base has almost tripled since 2019. Players have spent more than eight thousand real-life years mining for Morkite on Hoxxes since the game’s launch in 2018.
Deep Rock Galactic is nothing without its community, and it has been the driving force behind the game’s success. With over 189,000 active members, the DRG Discord server is among the 25 most active gaming servers in the world. Since the launch in 2018, more than 1000 fans have contributed to the effort of translating Deep Rock Galactic into 20+ languages.

Søren Lundgaard, CEO of Ghost Ship Games commented:
“It is a founding principle of our studio that our games be co-operative not just in genre, but also in the way they are built. We have been open with our community throughout the entire development process. We are a small studio, but the loyalty and passion that our fans have shown has enabled us to create something huge. Deep Rock is very much an evolving game, and we are excited to reveal what we have in store for 2021, with many of the upcoming features inspired by the community themselves!”
Albert Säfström, CEO of Coffee Stain Publishing continued: “Deep Rock Galactic was quite bare bone when it launched into Early Access in 2018. Since then, it has grown in scope, ambition, and quality. In doing so, Ghost Ship has proven what a dedicated team with a short iteration cycle that consistently listens to feedback and continues to push out new content can achieve. The results speak for themselves.”
The game has received incredible review scores from critics and users alike throughout 2020, and going into 2021. Overall, since launch, the game has received 97% positive user reviews out of the 57,406 total. This has rocketed Deep Rock Galactic to the position of Rank #42 best-reviewed game on Steam of all games of all time, and #8 out of all games released in 2020.

Founded in 2010, Coffee Stain Studios is responsible for ridiculous global sensation Goat Simulator, the Sanctum Games, and the otherworldly factory builder Satisfactory, currently in Early Access.
Coffee Stain Publishing was founded in 2017 to find talented developers and give them the tools and time to make their dream games. In 2018 Coffee Stain launched Leveling the Playing Field (LTPF) to support gender equality in the games industry, which offers funding to smaller and start-up development teams where at least half of employees are women. In 2020, LTPF expanded by broadening its criteria to include underrepresented races and ethnicities. Read more at https://www.ltpfgroup.com/.
