The Vienna-based (Austria) vidoe games publisher THQ Nordic and Skövde-based (Sweden) indie games developer Pieces Interactive, are today very happy and excited to announce that their survival horror game “Alone in the Dark”, is coming to PC (via Steam) and consoles (the PS5 and Xbox Series X) on January 16th, 2024.

Furthermore, Pieces Interactive and THQ Nordic have also just announced that they have released the “Alone in the Dark” Fear Fest 2023 Interview via Youtube. So be sure to check that one out! (you can watch the said interview further down the page).

With Alone in the Dark being part of IGN’s & Feardemic’s Fear Fest, Pieces Interactive’s Creative Director & Writer Mikael Hedberg (SOMA, Amnesia) had some interesting insights to share in his interview.

Alone in the Dark aims to give something familiar to old players and on the other hand something fresh to new players. Not an easy task with already six of those games out there! In his interview, Mikael Hedberg emphasized once again that Alone in the Dark is not meant as a sequel, neither a remake, but rather something new in a sense of tearing old things apart and putting them back together. Simply a love letter to the original. Alone in the Dark is not trying to be something completely new or a reinvention.

“We want to keep what’s there”, says Mikael. With Alone in the Dark, the studio wants to honor the “freaky feeling” of the old games more than trying to recreate it. Despite trying to capture the eerie essence, Alone in the Dark will offer players a completely new story, including a fantastic star cast with Jodie Comer and David Harbour!

Mikael continues to talk about working with Jodie and David:

“They are fantastic […]”, and how they brought the protagonists Edward and Emily to life. Originally, the characters were written more in a sense of being a duo, though, Jodie did an amazing job with bringing in sadness and tragedy to her character Emily which changed the route a little. Mikael states how both of them made their characters more interesting than he anticipated in the end!

Alone in the Dark is a love letter to the ground-breaking original that lets you experience a haunting story through the eyes of one of the two protagonists: play as either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood in this re-imagination of the classic survival horror game where Psychological Horror meets Southern Gothic. Alone in the Dark is developed by Pieces Interactive in Sweden and will be coming to PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation®5 on January 16th, 2024.
