Press release:
05 MAY 2020 – Solo developer, Tom Methven and publishers, Armor Games Studios are pleased to reveal “SOLAS” – a synthwave-infused puzzle game that utilises synchronized rhythmic movement to unravel a sprawling world of challenges (“SOLAS” is TBA PC title that’s coming to Steam sometime in the future).

Along with the launch of the Steam page, the announcement is accompanied by a brand new trailer that features some of the chill vibes players will experience as they explore a strange machine powered by music. As players experiment and begin to learn the rules governing this broken world, they’ll be consumed by intricate interlocking systems and the omnipresent pounding beat of the infernal machine.

SOLAS is made up of a single, constantly simulated, seamless world. The initial pulses emitted from the logo flow through every puzzle. Each room solved serves as a smaller piece of a greater whole. Every gate opened unlocks new paths to explore.

Designed from the ground up to be colourblind-friendly by default, SOLAS’ distinctive glyphs also form the basis of its unique aesthetic, while contrast sliders allow players to tune the game to their specific needs. Furthermore, SOLAS communicates through its design and abstract symbolism, inviting players of all languages to enjoy the same experience.

Solo developer, Tom Methven said:

”SOLAS began life as this mad little ‘what-if’ idea that I wasn’t sure would even work. To be able to announce this project, and that I’m collaborating with such awesome folk, is exciting and unreal in equal measure!”

SOLAS is available to wishlist on Steam now.

About SOLAS
SOLAS is a synthwave-infused puzzle game about directing pulses of light through a dark and damaged landscape. Synchronize the rhythmic movement of sprawling, neon clockwork as you learn to understand the rules of this broken world and the strange glyphs that control it. SOLAS is made up of a single, constantly simulated, seamless world.

The initial pulses emitted from the logo flow through every puzzle. Each room solved serves as a smaller piece of a greater whole. Every gate opened unlocks new paths to explore.

Though comprised of colour-based puzzles, SOLAS has been designed from the ground up to be colourblind-friendly.

About the Creators
Tom Methven: The solo developer behind Amicable Animal. Part-time lecturer, part-time games developer, full-time tea drinker, he loves combining old-school mechanics with minimalist, modern game design. SOLAS is his first commercial game.

Jamesy Downie: The musician behind the synthwave sound of SOLAS. Obsessed with everything 80s and VHS related, he created a soundtrack that relaxes, and hints at an underlying darkness.

Steven McSeveney: Sound Designer and all-round audio nerd; he creates immersive sonic experiences to bring worlds to life. He created the sound effects for SOLAS, marrying the neon-rich visuals with the game’s synth-fuelled soundtrack.
