MADRID, SPAIN – June 10, 2023.
The Singapore and UK-based indie games publisher Ysbryd Games and Madrid-based (Spain) indie games developer Nautilus Games, today announced with great thrill and joy that their touching platformer “Everdeep Aurora“, is coming to PC (via Steam) and the Nintendo Switch (via the Nintendo Eshop) in 2024 (as announced at the 2023 edition of the Wholesome Direct showcase).

As an apocalyptic meteor shower ravages the world, civilization has no choice but to continue underground, separating a little cat named Shell from her mother. Forge a new path into the Earth as Shell, drilling through procedurally-generated tile-based rocks and creating platforming opportunities on the kitty’s downward journey in hopes of reuniting with her family. Learn how life has fared under the surface by navigating temples, underground lakes, abandoned ruins, and suspicious science labs while befriending the eccentric subterrestrial denizens occupying them.

Encounter more than 20 charming underground denizens, forming bonds along the journey. The horned ram Remulus offers to upgrade Shell’s trusty drill, Aster cultivates botanical gifts in her hidden garden, and Ribbert leads the way to refuge. Hum to the tune of each character’s distinct musical theme while recovering collectibles, ores, and fulfilling side quests to foster their friendship. As Shell continues downward, the distant sounds of their secluded melodies may be the only motivation to keep her going…

With its nostalgia-inducing retro graphics and sound design, limited color palette, and square interface, Everdeep Aurora evokes a vintage aesthetic straight from beloved Nintendo Entertainment System pixel-painted titles. Nautilus Games goes a step beyond to accentuate the game’s artistry, including beautiful visual effects like color-grading transitions and whimsically-animated scenes.

“Everdeep Aurora mixes elements from games and movies of our childhood while exploring issues of isolation and bearing the burdens of past decisions,” said Mikel Ojea, co-founder of Nautilus Games.

“We were inspired by many classic titles with dark touches like Castlevania, Undertale, The Goonies, and Lost, and created an entirely non-violent game. There is no combat or any enemies to fight in Everdeep Aurora – instead, we focused on exploration, both of the physical Everdeep, and of the emotions we wanted to evoke from players, aiming for a memorable and stirring gameplay experience.”
