In the digital age, it would appear as if the 90s have truly returned yet again. From Crystal Pepsi coming back this August, to “Sonic Mania” coming to the Playstation 4, it’s all relevant. Furthermore, something amazing has happened. A rivalry 20 years in the making would appear to be resurfacing between Nintendo and Sega–starting with their original consoles!
Yes, you read that right. And to clarify we do mean the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the Sega Genesis home console. Nintendo officially announced a Mini-NES about three weeks ago, stating that the system will be a small plug n’ play, with 30 games included onboard the system’s drive. And the list of games the Mini-NES is offering is very competitive, and is sure to give classic fans something to look forward to.
Check it out the complete game list for the NES classic edition for yourself:
– Zelda II: The adventure of link
– Balloon fight
– Bubble Bobble
– Ice Clilmber
– Kid Icarus
– Star Tropics
– Super C
– Donkey Kong Jr.
– Pac-Man
– Mario Bros.
– Gradius
– Ghost n’ Goblins
– Temco Bowl
– Galaga
– Donkey Kong
– Dr. Mario
– Double Dragon II: The revenge
– Castlevania II: Simons Quest
– Ninja Gaiden
– Punch-Out!! Feat. Mr. Dream
– Kirby’s Adventure
– Super Mario Bros.
– Castlevania
– Final Fantasy
– Excitebike
– Super Mario Bros.2
– Metroid
– Mega Man 2
– The Legend of Zelda
– Super Mario Bros. 3
– Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers
– Contra
– Mega Man 3
– Tetris
That’s all 30 of them. And the best thing about the list is that there’s something on there for everyone. It’s not just a bunch of games that are first party, or third-party. Although the list could have been longer, we know that before it comes out, anything can change on it. Next-up we have Sega coming back with its classical Sega Genesis plug n’ play console WITH added cartridge support. That’s right not only is it preloaded with 80 games, but you will also be able to play your Sega genesis cartridges in the system itself.
There’s not much of a difference between this console and the previously released version from AtGames, except 20 new titles have been entered on the console keeping the cap at 80. And the brand-new titles that have been added to the Sega Genesis include:
– Ecco the Dolphin
– Virtua Fighter 2
– The entire Streets of Rage series
One thing to take special note about is the difference in connection between the two consoles. The Mini-NES has an HDMI input, while the Sega Genesis only has composite input settings. If you don’t have an SDTV you may be out of luck, unless you have an adapter, but then your graphics will be at the mercy of a dice roll. Lastly, the Sega Genesis will not use wired controllers like its counterpart, the Mini-NES. It will utilize infrared wireless controllers that will pick up the signal and allow for wireless gameplay.
So, what are your thoughts on the two systems? And which console will you choose? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below!
