I have seen quite a few SNES collector’s books, guides and whatnot over the years. However, Jeffrey Wittenhagen´s (a collector and writer of everything Gaming related) the complete SNES book is something out of the ordinary for sure. Well, at least that´s the vibes that I got from the book´s Kickstarter campaign. And I guess that I´m not the only one who got impressed, since Wittenhagen´s the complete SNES project has already been 200% funded on Kickstarter (+10,000 USD so far). So what exactly is the complete SNES book then? And what does it offer? Well, the book´s Kickstarter page states the following:
“The Complete SNES is a comprehensive near 500 page Super Nintendo Collector’s Book. Like with my previous project, to my knowledge there has not been a comprehensive book on the Super Nintendo that has covered every game released with complementary artwork! Aside from the licensed and unlicensed US releases, this book will also include PAL exclusives, Competition Carts, Homebrew Games and even accessories. We are striving to make this the Ultimate source for the Super Nintendo!
The book itself will be optimal quality with a large 8.5″ by 11″ size, around 500 beautiful color pages with a glossy hard cover; perfect for a coffee table! This is also completely consistent with the previous book releases and will look perfect next to them on a shelf. We are also trying to create a second book called the Super Nintendo Compendium to go along with the main book. This secondary book is available to back right at the launch of the project and we will be able to do a full print run once we hit our first stretch goal!” – Jeffrey Wittenhagen, The complete SNES
And since there is over 31 days left on the Kickstarter campaign, I wouldn´t be surprised if the complete SNES book manages to reach every single one of its stretch goals. And would that be the case, then we would get the following:
$20,000 – Book Expansion! The project will be split into two separate books, instead of one gigantic “tome”. The Complete SNES will still be its own near-500 page entity. However, all of the expanded reviews, backer contributed reviews and supplemental articles will become a second 100-200 page compendium, with many many many more expanded reviews added! This entire extra book will be in the graphical style of the Video Game Culture Chronicles Patreon series and will be a great complementary piece, while not taking anything away from the main Collector’s book.
$30,000 – More Free Stuff! All physical book backers will get a free custom designed SNES bookmark complete with artwork designed specifically for this project!
$40,000 – Ribbon Bookmark Upgrade! There will be a ribbon bookmark attached to both books to give it a classic look and feel. (Note: If we cannot add the ribbon bookmark for some reason, we will instead add a second free bookmark with a different custom design for all physical book backers)
$50,000 – Perforated Game Checklist! In the back of The Complete SNES there will be a perforated checklist for those of you that don’t want to take the book out with you on the go.
And speaking of which, at this very moment, the complete SNES project is about 9,000 USD away from reaching its second Kickstarter goal. And that would unlock the Super Nintendo Compendium book (as seen in the picture above). Which includes everything from personal SNES stories, notable Super Famicom games to supplemental articles (the book is said to offer 100 to 200 pages of SNES greatness). So if you´re into SNES gaming, then you should most definitely check out Jeffrey Wittenhagen´s the complete SNES project on Kickstarter.
