I/we have written quite a few posts about game mods in the past. However, most of the posts have been about mods for PC games. Well, that’s just about to change, because I just found out about Biohazard España’s “Resident Evil 1” PS1 mod “Real Hell” (at least that seems to be the name of the mod). So what exactly is this RE1 mod all about then? And what does the mod do? Well, here’s the actual description of the mod by Biohazard España:

“So here i am ! long time since i don’t upload anything, this is the last version of my Resident Evil 1 mod for Playstation, this time i changed some 3d models, enemies, items, infinite respawns in some areas, lot of pictures etc etc , so i leave here the time marks so you can see all the mods , hope you enjoy and if you liked, share it with another RE Fans. Greetings!

“Resident Evil 1” was originally released back in March of 1996 for the PS1 (that would be the Japanese version of RE, “Biohazard”).

In other words, quite a few things have been changed in RE1 due to mod (like the RE2 zombies and the character outfits, for example). However, it seems like the mod is not available for download (at least not to my knowledge). So I take it that the mod maker (s) isn’t quite done with their RE1 mod just yet? Or perhaps they never even intended to release the mod to the public? Well, time will tell. Nevertheless, I find the mod to be rather cool, and speaking of which. You will find some pictures and a gameplay video for the said mod down below.

Yep, Jill’s got a brand-new outfit, and tons of other changes have been done to RE1 as well.

Yep, you guessed it. Albert Wesker has replaced Barry Burton in this classic RE1 cut-scene.

In the unmodded version of R1 there would have been a male zombie in that closet. However, in Biohazard España’s mod there is a female RE2 in the closet instead.

    What else is different? If they were going to bother to mod things, it would be incredible if they could change the animations to the ones from the 2nd game too, like have Jill use Claire’s amazing run animations with the pistol and 2 handed guns. RE1 always looks very clunky in that dept.

    Wait, maybe getting things from RE3 would make more sense because that game featured Jill too. Even Jill’s RE1 outfit was unlockable in RE3, mod that over to the first game. Weird too the way he didn’t make it that the lab coat wearing zombies from RE1 would have their models replaced with the lab coat wearing zombies from later in RE2, sort of makes more sense.]
    And he replaced all the “naked” zombies at the end of the game with the police wearing hat zombie from RE2 when there is a better looking model “naked” zombie at the end of RE2 too lol.

    • The animation stuff I don’t even think it’s possible, RE1 animations are pretty messy, and if porting models from RE2 over RE1 was really difficult, I can’t really say if it’s even possible to do that with the anims, About the Zombies, I ported some from RE2 and I’m still porting some, I really think he did good choosing the Female Zombie and the Police wearing the cap, since the RE2 Scientsts might look too much like the original ones, In my point of view it makes the game look different, and pretty much cooler, but your idea sounds pretty good, I could take a look someday.

        Awesome. What is up with Jill’s outfit? That is a beta outfit for the original game or something?

        • I don’t honestly think is the original Beta outfit, it looks mostly like a skin made by someone, but looks really good

            Yeah its pretty cool. Haha would love to see that fat guy from the very start of RE3 replace Robert Kendo in the gun shop in RE2. At least we would get an on screen death then 🙂

          • That can be easily done, I ported a Beta Hunter from RE3 to RE2 and RE1, so yeah, it’s possible ^^

            Wow, the only “Modding” I ever did for RE was the PC version 17 years ago. I replaced a lot of the voice files with OUR OWN voice acting lol.

      Hahahaha God, always have to appear someone that ” doesn’t see so many changes ” ….
      Well i start saying that if you dont have knowdelege of modding, it’s normal that you don’t find in some ocasions notables changes, but all the files of this games have been renovated .

      Inventory, items, title screen, option screen, enemies scripts , doors textures, 3D models wich i never saw a person changing those , most of the items ubications has benn changed, enemies in some rooms are mixed ,so this is a hard work of script programming , and i only showed the ARRANGE MODE, Original mode have other modifications, still preserve the same zombies but the rest of the mod it’s diferent . Now all you know why i ” Mute ” those people who don’t know what they talking about, it’s so easy criticize a mod to someone like you that only see on the game ” RE2 zombies ”

      about your insane ideas, i must say that its completely imposible a ” dual handed gun ” even on RE3 its imposible,

      Also i can’t acomplish with your crazy and unnecessary ideas ,i mean Naked zombies are replaced by ” Securty guards ” that protect the entrance to the laboratory ( RE2 POLICE ZOMBIES ) i found more interesting,

      Anyway, i hope the next time you can do a constructive critic about the mod knowing something, because this is almost a year of work and you has scuppered everything with your comment . Have a nice dat everyone !!!

        Lol I meant “2 handed gun” as in a shotgun or the grande launchers i.e. a gun that takes up the persons 2 hands when they are running with it and I was alluring to the sexy ass run that Claire has in RE2 when she runs with such a gun. ^_^

        No need to get so offended. It WAS constructive criticism. I never swore or said any hurtful things. That’s why I inquired about the animations from RE2 and if it was possible. “Security Guards”, I never thought of that, I always assumed those hat wearing zombies were RCPD cops.

          Thanks again Rob, modding RE1 requires a lot of work, i spend like 3 months in fix a very important tool to mod RE1 as i want it , so this time plus editing all the rooms was a work of 1 year and some months, now that i have the base i can use it and combine with another mods, but to do a new mod like that and now that i have the necessary experience maybe in 3 or 4 months can be done,

          @AndrewSwual : im not ofended, just so many people asking same Q’s but doesn’t have the respect that you have, so no problem im not ofended. just i didn’t understand what ” 2 handed guns ” mean i picture a gun like Lugers of RE Code veronica hahahaha . About the animations maybe can be done but im sure that requires a lot of hard work, but… A LOT haha . it’s ok lot of people are asking to they self what are they doing RPD polices on the basement, but as i said i tried to look like they are ” securty guards ” of the lab where they keeping all the B.O.W.S. Stuff!

            Great job though, My guess is modding the PS1 version of RE1 is WAY harder than modding a PC version of RE1?
            I’m not sure what I hate more, those luger guns in RE CV or Steve himself. 🙂

            Yeah, ps1 have a lot of more limitations, not to mention that when you are working on it, the test are more hard because epsxe crashes a lot, because can’t handle those mods, so you have to work with PS1 limitations, its all test and test and test and see what it work and what not, definitely PS1 have more limitations

      • Isn’t that the truth of the day…I didn’t know how much time and effort you had put into the mod, but I had a feeling that it was around 1-1.5 years. So I wasn’t that far of target. Yes, it does indeed take a lot of time to create mods of that kind. So, props to you!

        Thank you so much Robin ! no problem i never expect an article of no one of my mods so i never let social networks on my description , i apreciate you for writing about it !
        About Bioflames people are forgotten , last ” oficial ” update are from 2015 i think.
        a year later i made my own version wich change the skin of leon of elza, some items, diferent enemies in other rooms, a important FIX to the game relative with the pick up items.. but as far as i know the project are stoped because they can’t add more rooms to this build, a programmer called ” Gemini ” is making the game from scratch but this happend 1 or 2 years ago, maybe at the end of this year or from beggining of next will recibe some ” Demo uptade ” . Once again thank you for the interest, and excuse my english! greetings
