Way back in 1999 Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios (Ken Levine worked as a writer/designer) released a fps/rpg/cyberpunk/sci-fi horror game called “System Shock 2”.A game that was way ahead of its time (on so many levels).
And still today (over 15 years later), many Gamers consider System Shock 2 to be one of the best games ever made.
But as we all know. There was never a System Shock 3. And Irrational Games closed it´s doors back in February this year (the 18th). So there´s a very slim chance that we will ever get to see a sequel to System Shock 2 (EA owns the licence btw).
There´s some hope for a System Shock 2 remake however. Because Mr. Smo (a Polycount forum user ) has started to remake the whole game with the help of CryEngine 3.
And apparently, the scene where Shodan appears in Mr.Smo´s trailer (i have added “DrunkenArsenal´s” trailer to this post. Because his version uses music from System Shock 2) was inspired by artist called Jim Hatama.
And i sure hope that Mr.Smo will transform System Shock 2 into a 100% CryEngine 3 beast. I mean, just look at the trailer and the pictures. It´s a GOTY title all the way!
