I don´t know if Nintendo (or Shigaru Miyamoto) knows about this fan project yet. But Marcus Richter is working on a HD remake version of Super Mario 64 (the original game revolutionized the game industry back in June 1996).
A remake that´s going to offer more than “just” high definition graphics. Because Richter plans to add multiplayer support to his Super Mario 64 HD Remake project (which is a non-profit project) as well.
Oh, did i mention that the game will be all free-to-play to PC? Richter and his team also plans to hide a lot of easter eggs in the game.
Sounds great indeed. At this time there is now release date for the Super Mario HD remake though (according to the project´s community manager Justin Crouch).
And as we all know, super ambitious fan-projects like this tends to die out over time. Either because the lack of interest or motivation.
Or simply because people get´s forced to close down their projects (either that, or end up in court. Like in the case with “SOR Remake”, or the remake of Chrono Trigger).
Oh well, time will tell how things will turn out for Marcus Richter and his Super Mario 64 HD team. We wish them the best of luck with everything!
“We haven’t decided completely [on whether multiplayer will be co-op], and to be honest, I think it is something that we will push for a later time,” Richter said. “Right now we are focusing on getting the single-player aspect working perfectly.” – Marcus Richter, the dev of Super Mario 64 HD”
