Today is a very special day for Playtonic Games, because they celebrated their second birthday as a game studio today. Well, So far, so good right? Yes, but once when I started to go through the comments on Playtonic Games Facebook’s page, I couldn´t help to notice that quite a few people left some really angry comments about the lack of a physical Yooka-Laylee Switch release. (as seen in the picture down below). Comments such as the following:

“I can’t say “Happy Birthday”, cause I’m waiting for Switch Retail Confirming. What are you waiting for Playtonic?! Confirm it and give us a relase!! If one Platform earns to have Yooka-Laylee, than Nintendos, Playtonic. Don’t forget your History and where you grown up with your Games, Playtonic…”

“I cant believe that yooka laylee is a tribute game and the game is based of the Nintendo 64 classic “Banjoo-Kazooie”, and they dont even want to make a physical copy for the Nintendo Switch… WoW just wow, thats really cheap Playtonic…”

playtonic games gets angry rants over the lack of a physical yooka-laylee switch release

I can´t blame Playtonic Games for this, as they have only been around for two years. So it´s a huge financial risk to release a physical copy of “Yooka-Laylee” for the Switch console.

I understand where the Switch and Nintendo fans are coming from with this, but I also get why Playtonic Games is playing it safe by waiting for the Switch to launch on the market (to see how things will turn out). Simply put, Playtonic Games is just trying to avoid losing money. Furthermore, Playtonic has stated the following about a physical Yooka-Laylee Switch release:

“When will you share more details on Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch?

We continue to work closely with Nintendo on plans for a Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee and more details will be revealed in the future. We’re working as hard and fast as we can and are looking forward to giving you the answers you’re looking for on many topics including release timing. As soon we’re 100% certain of our plans, we’ll share them with you straight away – promise! We’d like to thank our many Nintendo fans for their continued patience and understanding.

Note: Upon release, the Kickstarter Switch version will be delivered to backers via digital game codes and thus no additional upgrade cost is required. For Kickstarter, unfortunately physical Switch editions are beyond our scope right now, as we anticipate the difference in costs compared to digital formats would result in further expense to backers which we’re unable to accurately determine at this point in time. If circumstances change, we’ll update you ASAP as we 100% would love to do a Physical Release on Switch.” – Playtonic Games

In other words, Playtonic hopes to bring a physical release of Yooka-Laylee to the Switch console as soon as possible. So I would like to tell those who dropped angry comments on Playtonic´s Facebook page to be patient and just take it chill, because Playtonic will do everything in their power to release a retail copy of Yooka-Laylee for Switch.

And with that said, what´s your take on this matter? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
