***Update 1 – 2016-03-07 – 21:32 CET***
I just wanted to point out that “Grand Dad” is based on a bootleg hack of the Flintstones NES game. So now you know 😉
————————————————-
It´s no secret that there have been plenty of Super Mario Bros clones over the years (like Time Warp Productions “Super Giana Sisters”, for example). Because once Nintendo released the original Super Mario Bros game back in 1985 (which became a smash hit). A lot of developers wanted a piece of the 8-bit platform pie. And if we jump forward to the mid 2000s (the indie game scene exploded around that time). We got to see a lot of homebrew Super Mario clones as well. And just earlier today I spotted Red-Fire´s neat platform game “Grand Dad”. A game which Red-Fire has described as the following:
“GRAND DAD is a fangame based on everyone’s favorite Mario ripoff/Fortran recolor/Vinesauce meme/Eldrich Abomination. The game aims to be a platformer with plenty of references to both classic and bootleg NES games. In this video, the intro is showcased as well as the start of the in-game engine. It’s a long road, but hopefully we’ll make it.” – RED-FIRE
In other words, “Grand Dad” will be full of references from the NES era. So in a way, the game will be a “NES tribute” kind of thing as well. And I´m probably very close to the truth. As Red-Fire has already managed to put in “The flintstones” and “Super Mario Bros” references into his short gameplay video of “Grand Dad” (as seen down below). Nice indeed, sadly enough though. There is no release date available for “Grand Dad” at this time. So only time will tell when we get a chance to play “Grand Dad”. You are still free to check out the neat “Grand Dad” gameplay trailer down below though.
With that said, what do you think about “Grand Dad” so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
