Back in January this year i wrote two “Banjo-Kazooie” related articles. The first is called “Is Rare working on a new Banjo Kazooie title?” and the second “Banjo Kazooie´s house has been recreated in Unreal Engine 4“. And since then the Banjo-Kazooie fans has had endless cravings for a new Banjo-Kazooie title. And it seems like the fans will get what they want.
As the creative talent behind Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie (Playtonic Games) has joined forces and created a game called “Yooka-Laylee”. A game which looks (and feels) just like a hybrid of Banjo-Kazooie and DKC (but with nextgen graphics). So i was not surprised to hear that “Yooka-Laylee”reached it´s Kickstarter goal in just a couple of days (the goal was to collect £175,000).
In the matter of fact. “Yooka-Laylee” has collected over £1,4 million to this day, and there´s still 38 days left on the Kickstarter campaign. And that means that the game will be released to Windows, MAC, Linux, Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U. So if you´re a fan of Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie then you got all the reasons to be happy right now.
And all the stretch goals has been reached. Well, okay all but one. And that´s the “Orchestral score” goal. And “Yooka-Laylee” needs to reach the £1.5 million goal to unlock that stretch goal. So you might wanna help “Yooka-Laylee” reach that goal by supporting the game on Kickstarter!
About Yooka-Laylee:
Yooka-Laylee is an all-new 3D platformer from the creative talent behind the Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country games. We’ve come together to form Playtonic Games and create a spiritual successor to our most cherished work from the past!
Our new heroes, Yooka (the green bloke with no pants) and Laylee (the wisecracking lady-bat with the big nose) were conceptualised from the ground up for stellar platforming gameplay, created by the same character artist behind the rebooted Donkey Kong family and legendary N64 heroes Banjo and Kazooie.
Using an arsenal of special moves like Yooka’s tongue grapple and Laylee’s tactical sonar blast, players will explore – and expand – gorgeous 3D worlds drawn up by esteemed environment artist Steven Hurst (Banjo-Kazooie series, Viva Pinata) and through skill discover the plethora of delicious collectibles hidden within.
