It´s rather sad that Funcom might have to close down their studio (company) for good due to financial problems, because apparently “Lego Minifigures Online” didn´t do all that well. And Funcom was in desperate need for a commercial success. So the whole company (and 282 employees) could go up in smoke if Funcom doesn´t find an investor (and fast). And I really hope that Funcom will be saved from bankruptcy, as they have created some really good game series in the past (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, The Secret World and Age of Conan for example).
All of this became publicly known after a post by Funcom via their homepage earlier this month:
“Following the completion and launch of the LEGO Minifigures Online game, and based on the situation described in the stock notice from Funcom issued on 23 July this year, Funcom N.V. (hereafter the “Company”) has retained ABG Sundal Collier to undertake a broad review of the strategic options available to the Company. The Company is actively seeking interested parties for discussions surrounding a possible investment, acquisition, merger, or any other available options. Funcom will update the market about the outcome of the review and potential other developments in due course. Any enquiries may be addressed to [email protected]” – Funcom
So one might ask him or herself, whom would be interested in buying Funcom? And is there enough time left to be able to save Funcom from the game over screen?
