This is not the first time that I’ve written about Youtube copyright problems and Let´s players, not by a long shot. As I´ve done that quite a lot in the past. Like when I wrote about how Angry Joe got slammed by Youtube copyright policies, or when Angry Joe spoke up about his copyright problems with Mario party 10. Well, it seems like ProJared (his a Youtube “Let´s Player”) has just joined the “Nintendo´s Youtube copyright strike/claim” club as well. As ProJared tweeted out the following earlier today:

“Dear YouTubers who want to do Super Mario Maker Let’s plays: You have been warned.” ProJared, Y

projared super mario

Pro-tip, it´s not worth the risk to upload Nintendo videos on Youtube.

And to make matters even worse, it seems like Nintendo have reached out to people about reviewing “Super Mario Maker.” And once they have started to upload videos of “Super Mario Maker,” people have been caught in “Youtube´s copyright hell hole.” So it doesn´t seem like the “fair use act of 1974” applies to Youtube or any of Nintendo´s games for that matter. Thus the angry rants on Twitter:

nintendo youtube copyrights

Nintendo needs to take it chill with their Copyright claims…

nintendo dont like lets players

It´s not worth being a Nintendo Let´s player imo. To much fuss…

nintendo youtube money

Yep, Nintendo want´s a big bite out of all that Youtube money.

However, I have to say that Tom Fawkes (a Twitter user) made the best comment on the matter:
“So, was that a recruitment strategy?! “We´d like you to promote this and give us the money unless you join our program”

Honestly, this is just one of many reasons behind WHY we never bothered to cover any of Nintendo´s games on Youtube. It´s simply not worth the risk nor the effort. I mean, what´s the point of spending hours or recording, editing and then doing pr for your video? As you probably will end up with a copyright claim sooner or later anyhow? It´s just asking for trouble. And the “Nintendo creators program” doesn´t seem to be worth wasting time on either.

However, if you still want to make Nintendo videos on Youtube, then you could always try the following things:
1. Lower the music and sound volume to zero (talk over the video as well), and add some free music from Youtube´s library to your video (s)
2. Add a border to your video, and shrink the video size slightly

Don´t say that I didn´t warn you though!
