So far, Capcom has revealed 14 (out of the 16) playable characters for their beloved and anticipated fighting game “Street Fighter V” (Ryu, Chun-Li, Nash, M. Bison, Cammy, Birdie, Ken, Necalli, Vega, R. Mika, Rashid, Karin, Zangief, and Laura). And one can expect that Capcom will release even more characters over time as well, but as for here and now. I do have my own personal favorite fighter. And I actually like her more than I like Chun-Li (I honestly never believed that any female SF fighter would be able to kick her down from her throne).
Yes, I´m talking about the Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu super lady Laura Matsuda. And let me tell you what. When I first saw her in Capcom´s announcement trailer about one week ago, it was love at first sight. However, to my big surprise. Laura´s fighting style was not capoeira based. Sure, that does not necessarily have to be a bad thing of course. I just thought that Laura would become the “Christie Monteiro” (Tekken) of Street Fighter 5 (off-topic, but SF5 looks bloody great thanks to Unreal Engine 4). Nevertheless, I´m glad that Capcom made Laura into a Jiu-Jitsu fighter instead. As Jiu-Jitsu is a really popular martial arts sport in Brazil, and in large parts of the rest of the world for that matter.
Anyhow, what is it then that I love so much about Laura Matsuda? Well, what is there not to like about her? She´s strong, sexy, beautiful and full of personality and charisma (not to mention that she has tons of cool combos, special attacks and moves on top of that). Hell, Laura is like the female version of Blanka. And not only that, I´m also very happy about the fact that she´s Brazilian. As there are very few Brazilian fighters in the SF universe (Blanka and Laura´s kid brother Sean, for example). And I´m far from alone to feel like that, as the Street Fighter scene got caught on fire in Brazil when it became known that Laura Matsuda was a Brazilian fighter. In fact, shortly after Capcom had uploaded their Laura Matsuda trailer on Youtube (the trailer got uploaded on the 8th of October). A female Mexican cosplayer called anaLusauceda made Laura Matsuda even more famous thanks to her cosplay of Laura (anaLusauceda got credit for being one of the world´s very first Laura Matsuda cosplayer).
So, am I excited for Street Fighter V´s release next year? (2016 Q1, for PS4 and Windows) You bet! I would also like to thank Capcom and Yoshinori for not caving into the West´s PC bro and SJW army. Because if Capcom had caved in, then Laura Matsuda wouldn´t even exist in her current form for sure.
With that said, do you like Laura Matsuda as much as I do? And are you excited for Street Fighter V as well? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comment section down below!
