Press release:
LOS ANGELES (April 30, 2025).
The Hague-based (the Netherlands) indie games publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment (Dicefolk, Monster Train”) and Nyon-based (Switzerland) indie games developer Violet Saint, today announced withj great joy and excitement that their dark fantasy hack-and-slash adventure “Moroi” (the game is inspired by Romanian folklore, heavy metal and the brilliant works of David Lynch) , is now available for PC via Steam.

See all-new gameplay straight from the darkest corners of Moroi in today’s launch trailer:

Explore the theater of torment unfolding around you within the depths of Moroi’s Cosmic Engine, a personalized hellscape of twisting corridors, rusted gears, and rotting flesh. Brave the surreal horrors ahead without any knowledge of your name, your sins, or your past.

Claw your way through this realm and encounter grotesque inhabitants whose morbid humor offers the only flicker of light in this dark world. Cling to your sanity in an otherwise deteriorating existence styled as grimdark fantasy, a subgenre of fiction distinguished by bleak, dystopian settings and scenarios.

In this place, violence seems like a currency. Moroi’s battalions of mages, golden guards, and the cursed dead all march to the rhythm of a nightmare, and you are caught in the tempo. Survive by wielding unorthodox weaponry such as attaching the vicious teeth of a talking duck to your sword, or shower enemies with added projectiles thanks to the aid of a powerful moon. Every step forward unveils something new, and something even farther from god.

Once your body is soaked in blood from combat, the Cosmic Engine confronts your mind with stomach-churning puzzles. Drink blood to open a door, induce regurgitation to reveal a new path, or dig through the insides of some poor soul to earn your passage. Every answer is a sacrifice, every solution a wound. Engage with this twisted world’s eccentric, absurd, and damned denizens, uncovering the reality of its cruel nature while grasping at fleeting moments of laughter amid the darkness.

Escape is your only hope in Moroi, but it won’t come easy. Tread carefully as the choices you make will carve your path toward one of multiple endings, shaping a fate that may prove worse than the nightmares you are trying to flee.

About Violet Saint
Moroi began as a solo project and has since grown into a passionate team working to bring its eerie vision to life. Moroi is the debut title from Violet Saint, led by Alexandru Stănescu, a Romanian-born and Swiss-based dev. As a veteran Unreal Engine Artist, making Moroi is a dream (or nightmare) come true. An exquisitely crafted labor of love packed with macabre designs near and dear to Alex’s heart.

Alex’s artistic persona has been shaped by horror, absurd and surreal art, as well as heavy metal music. Moroi combines his love of these aesthetics with his admiration for the folklore of his home country, Romania.
