I wasn´t quite sure what I should make of “Pigsodus”, as I´ve never heard (or tried) a game where you control a farm pig. However, when Psilocybe Games presented the game for me. I really liked the idea of a point-and-click adventure/RPG and horror game that has a “Game of thrones” vibe to it (the devs own words, and animals do indeed get killed of in a GOT kind of way). So I decided to give the game a fair chance. And good thing that, since the demo was really entertaining (you can download the free demo for Windows and MAC).
That´s just the half of it though, because once I started to play the demo. I soon realized that “Pigsodus” is most likely inspired by more games than “just” the “Monkey Island” series. Well, I can only speak for myself now of course, but I did pick up some “Simon the sorcerer” (the retro graphics and look) and “Chrono Trigger” (the RPG elements and the big frog god) vibes while playing through the demo. I also suspect that “Pigsodus” has been inspired by the movie “Babe”, and in my book that´s a really interesting and cool combination.
So, what´s my thoughts on the demo in terms of gameplay then? Well, the controls are really simple and user-friendly (the standard point-and-click user face for PC, mouse + keyboard). And I find the 2D retro-like graphics to be truly charming. The music fits the game really well (“Pigsodus” awesome soundtrack is made by Mr. Piotr Surmacz), and the dialogs and jokes are very spot-on I have to say (the demo has a very dark kind of humor). I also like the fact that the problem solving aspects of “Pigsodus” are of a very logic nature (there is no need to try everything on every single item or person). In the matter of fact, you don´t even appear to have an inventory in “Pigsodus”. You simply pick up what you need to use (drag and drop), and then bring that item to area where you need to use that very item. And that´s it.
So, what about cons then? I´m glad that you asked, but here was actually just one aspect of the game that annoyed me a whole lot in the demo of “Pigsodus”. And that would be the fact that the battles take forever to finish off (there is only one battle to be found in the demo though). There is also just one single attack option to choose from as well, so it was rather boring to headbutt a wolf repeatedly for several minutes in a row. Neverthless, I still had a really good time with the “Pigsodus” demo.
So if you´re into point-and-click and RPG games, then you should most definitely try the “Pigsodus” demo. And you don´t have to take my word for it either, just check in my gameplay video down below!
Pros:
+ Awesome 2D retro graphics
+ RPG, point-and-click, battle and adventure elements
+ The puzzles are extremely straight forward
+ Very few to non bugs at all
+ The world’s very first survival pig horror game!
Cons:
– The battles take to long to finish off
– There are just one attack move in the demo
