I think that most people know that there are new games made for Dreamcast, Saturn and other old retro consoles. So that’s not exactly anything new beneath the sun. However, what most people might not know is that there are indie game studios like Mega Cat Studios that actually develop new NES games which they release on actual NES cartridges. Yes, you read that right 😉 Just take Mega Cat’s brand-new NES action game “Justice Duel“, here’s what Mega Cat Studios told us per e-mail:
“Here Comes the Red White and Bruise
Out now for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Justice Duel is a video game in which AI versions of past presidents face-off against one another whilst jousting atop genetically engineered eagles. Don’t throw away your shot- saddle up your eagle and prepare to duel!
This isn’t your Founding Father’s bird jousting game- you’ve gotta watch out for bear traps, firecrackers bursting in midair and land mines disguised as eagle eggs. Less than 1% of NES games allow more than two players at a time- Justice Duel supports up to four simultaneously!” – Mega Cat Studios
Nice indeed, so what about features then? Well, these are the said features for “Justice Duel”:
Key facts and features:
– An authentic retro experience, Justice Duel is out now on the NES
– Up to four players can duel one another locally (requires Four Score)
– Four playable figures from American history, including Abraham Lincoln and General Lee
– Four arenas for dueling, from the Capitol Building to the U.S.S. Independence
– Bombs, missiles, bear traps and firecrackers- the 2nd Amendment is in full force.
– 20 Achievements, each a challenge to unlock, because freedom ain’t free!
– Genetically engineered cyborg eagles with top hats!
Well, I don’t know about you, but I find that to sound rather interesting. Furthermore, the trailer for “Justice Duel” looks pretty darn bad-ass I have to say (you can watch the trailer down below!). So I might just pick this game up. I need to buy myself a new NES console first though, because my previous NES system broke down on me…
