If a television show or movie becomes cult, then the franchising rights become worth a lot of money. Why? because people are willing to pay to gain the right to use the characters, the theme tune or other recognized imagery, and that is big business.

It turns a T-shirt from an item worth a few dollars into something worth 20 or $30 just because it has the film or television imagery. Game of Thrones has become huge and companies clammer for franchising rights, however as Americancasinos.com reports one company got some free advertising in a recent episode

Sporting continuity errors has long been something dedicated fans thrive on doing, after episode four of the eighth season went on air recently social media lit up with what fans claim to be one of the most significant spots in years.

It does seem that between the cast and crew someone made rather a rookie mistake, as during one scene what can only be described as a Starbuck takeout cup can clearly be seen sitting on the table.

While the Game of Thrones team may have red faces, we are sure that the Starbucks franchise is going to be thrilled with the error. We can only issue it was not deliberate due to the time period of which the television series is set.

It is fair to say that the land is somewhat fantasy, but we cannot imagine for one minute how a modern-day takeaway coffee cup could possibly be written into the script.

There are no supermarkets and mobile phones; this is a land of mythical creatures. Known as Winterfell, it is a beautiful place, but we are quite confident that this was an error, not a deliberate mistake.

Littering in the area is not something we can see the characters doing; we actually think they would be more environmentally friendly and use reusable coffee mugs. The cup seemed to belong to Daenerys Stormborn, and fans took great delight with ironic tweets.

“Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, the Mother of Dragons, the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, the Breaker of Chains and Drinker of Pumpkin Spice” was one of the best offerings we saw. We also think that pumpkin spice is the perfect drink of choice for her.

Product placement is one thing, but we cannot help but feel that some of the other companies who have paid good money to use a Game of Thrones name may be slightly put out by this free advertising offer to Starbucks albeit accidentally.

So who knows, perhaps they could start adding other products from other manufacturers to other episodes in a discreet way as we are quite sure that brands would pay to see their items in Winterfell.

Nevertheless, one thing is for sure they are not going to live this down for quite some time to come, and we would not have liked to have been the person responsible once the management came after them.
