The Great White North is known for many things. Food, culture, and beauty are the first which usually come to mind. What many people, including gamers, often don’t know is that there are plenty of fantastic video games developed in Canada as well. This has actually been the case for a long while now, with new industries popping up for modern entries into the video game market. In this article, we’ll go over just a few of our favorites so far, with many more yet to come.

NHL

What list of games in Canada would be complete without an entry of this national Canadian pastime? The National Hockey League is one of the most watched and enjoyed experiences in Canadian media, so it was only natural that it would make its way into video games. This is a very long-running series, with its first entry all the way back in 1991. It makes sense that you would go to the authority on hockey when making hockey games, and EA Canada has proven that faith well-founded.

Something A Little Less Obvious

Video games have a lot going for them when it comes to diversity. Not just in terms of what they cover, but in terms of who they cover, their influence is very wide-ranging. Online casinos are a perfect example of this. These are, in effect, simply video games, which cater to a specific market. Online casinos in Canada are incredibly popular and profitable, with newly developed games like Mega Moolah pulling in and dishing out millions of dollars a year. You can see these on a whole host of websites, or click to read more here. Sport or gambling, Canada’s video game market has you covered.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided

There were a lot of worries when it came to the newer Deus Ex games. The first is a classic, though the second was a little iffy by many people’s standards. How would the newest games compare, then? Fortunately, Eidos Montréal proved to be the right choice, with their recent games being an incredible mix of old-school depth with new-school accessibility. Simply put, the newer Deus Ex games are some of the best modern versions of classic games, and some of the rare ones which can actually hold up.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

The most-recent reboots into the Tomb Raider franchise, the team at Crystal Dynamics have really outdone themselves when it comes to this series. While the game was showing its age for some time, this reboot brought with it some much-needed upgrades and streamlining to propel it back into the limelight. Now with a new film recently released, and another game slated for later this year, so we can’t wait to get back into raiding some tombs again.
