Roulette is a game with many variants. Even a special Arabian roulette variant can be found. While each of these variants plays the same way, they offer different winning odds and require different strategies to be used. So, what are the best of these strategies? Is there a roulette strategy that really works? In this article, we will try to answer these questions.

First of all, roulette is a game invented by a mathematician. The famous mathematician Blaise Pascal used highly complex mathematical formulas to develop it. There is a particular reason why we mention this: Pascal designed these formulas to give the advantage to the casino. So, no matter how lucky you are, you can always be sure that the casino will win in the long run.

But, what’s the secret of roulette success stories you heard? How do the winning players do it?

Is cheating possible in roulette?

Until the 1950s, roulette wheels were produced by hand. Since they were not fabricated, each was slightly different from the other and had some physical imperfections. Professional gamblers often managed to defeat the wheel using these flaws and make an accurate estimate of what the result would be.

Most of the roulette success stories you hear come from this period. Did you hear the story of the gambler who made millions in the roulette game in the Monte Carlo casino? Wait, I heard about a system…

We’re sure you heard. There are many systems that claim to work for roulette. The first of these is the “Martingale system”. Many of the other systems are Martingale variants. This progressive betting strategy requires doubling the stakes each time.

For example, if you start playing with 2 coins, you wager 4 coins in the next round. Then, 8, 16, 32 and… You get the main idea. Until you win, you double the stake amount at each round. Progressive betting strategies are based on the assumption that you will cover all your losses when you win.

Theoretically, this is true, because you can really cover all your losses when you win, since the pot is too high (thanks to you). The problem is, there’s no guarantee of when to win. Roulette systems are based on an error called “gamblers fallacy”:

The probability of occurrence increases if the outcome has not occurred for a certain period of time. In other words, if you bet on red and if the result is not red in the last 10 rounds, the possibility of this outcome is increased in the eleventh round.

Unfortunately, there is no basis for this thought. Probability calculations are made from the scratch each time. The possibility of red outcome in the eleventh round is exactly the same as the first round. If you progressively increase the stake amount based on this false assumption, you can go bankrupt in a very short time.

So, there is no way to increase your chances?

No, we did not say that. Some betting options have a higher probability than others. You can bet on these to increase your chances of winning. The following table provides detailed information about this:

In this respect, we can say that the most advantageous betting option is Dozen with a 2: 1 payout rate – if you want to take risks but still want to keep your chances high, pick Dozen. Keep this in mind though, there is one important thing to remember: The data in this table belongs to the variant called “European Roulette”. We have mentioned above that each variant offers different winning odds. European is the most advantageous variant. However, if you prefer to play American Roulette, for example, the odds will be much lower. So, if we list the tips to increase your chances of winning:

– Always play the European variant (if possible prefer en prison rules). Stay away from the American variant.
– Red/black, even/odd, and low/high are always the best options.
– Dozen has the most ideal price/performance ratio.
– The odds of winning the Straight bet are higher than you are likely to be struck by a lightning.

That’s probably not what you wanted to hear, and we are sorry. However, there is no secret and no strategy that works for roulette. All you can do is to choose the betting options where you have a high chance of winning.
