On the 5th of October this year I wrote an article about the death of PC Gamer Sweden (1996-2015). And, well, I honestly thought that PCG Sweden was done for (no more extra lives, nor credits so to speak). As things looked very grim at the time, especially since Thomas Petersson (ex-chief Editor PCG Sweden) said that the party was over for sure. However, it seems like PCGS (PC Gamer Sweden) isn’t dead and gone for life just yet. Yes, you read it right. Because in the latest edition of PCGS we (the readers) were told that the magazine “might” get a second chance in the shape of a Kickstarter campaign. In other words, PCGS faith is in the hands of its readers and fans (mainly Swedish readers and fans of course). I really hope that´s the case, because there are very few Gaming sites and magazines in Sweden that I trust and love nowadays.
Nevertheless, it´s going to take a whole lot of effort in order to save PCGS from the grim reaper. Even so, I felt a little “bit” of hope when I read what PCGS chief Editor (Thomas Pettersson) had to say in an e-mail earlier today (the original text was in native Swedish, so it´s not a 100% accurate translation):
“Hey! This is Thomas Pettersson who writes, executive editor of PC Gamer. It’s not a billion Egmont, any analyst or marketing person. It’s me, Thomas, your maximum ordinary blocks gamer, who sits at home in his blue chair and scribble this greeting to you. For almost 20 years ago, I read myself wide-eyed about the hot new game in PC Gamer. A few years later I started to write about the game and today I once worked on the editorial staff of ten years. For some time it is I who along with all the wonderful employees drives PC Gamer in Sweden. I hope you will join us in future games.
Did you read us for a while then maybe you can give us another chance, and have you read us a long time, you will surely like the future too. We intend to be even better, viz. Reader surveys may not always be so funny, but they help us to know what exactly you want to read about in the newspaper, or online when we get that far. For where should we. This issue is the game. In short, we draw the way, started a Kickstarter campaign whose primary goal is to give us the initial capital we need for a good online bet. (Yay!) We also hope to do lots of other fun things, but the network is the main goal. Maybe you have the opportunity to spend a little money for a cool reward, but you are of course cordially to become or remain one of us regardless. See you! With friendly regards gnm Tveskägg” – Thomas Pettersson, PC Gamer Sweden
So, do I believe that PC Gamer Sweden can be saved? Hell yeah, and will I do what I can in order to help them? I sure will! I´m just waiting for PCGS to kick-off their Kickstarter campaign, speaking of which. PCGS Kickstarter campaign might actually be the first of its kind. Well, at least I can´t remember the last time a big-name Gaming magazine threw a Kickstarter campaign to save itself from the Game Over screen (the real-life version). Anyhow, I wish PC Gamer Sweden the best of luck on Kickstarter. May the Gaming gods smile up on them!
***Disclosure***
I´ve been a reader and a fan of PC Gamer Sweden since 1998.
