Streaming your video content has always been a popular choice whenever since YouTube was first introduced, let us not forget that YouTube is the reason why we have Justin Bieber for without it he would have never been discovered.
YouTube has been the go-to social media platform for uploading user-created content however when it comes to television series and movies there is only one that reigns supreme and that would happen to be Netflix however, that is all about to change thanks to the introduction of YouTube Originals. YouTube Originals are exactly what it sounds like, original content produced by YouTube similar to Netflix Originals.
The most interesting thing about YouTube Originals is the fact that you can preview the first few episodes in their entirety and that too commercial-free before subscribing to YouTube Red to access the remaining episodes of the series originally produced by YouTube.
This allows the end-user to preview the content before subscribing to the services and that too without YouTube/Google login credentials, which is truly super cool because you simply cannot do that with Netflix at the moment.
This allows YouTube to get some interesting analytical data since the number of views will differ between the first two episodes and the reaming view on the remaining episodes to determine how well the content was received.
YouTube Red will be transiting to YouTube Premium which will allow you to not only access YouTube Original content but will also allow you to stream music video or music on smartphones and tablets allowing you to stream music in the background all for $11.99 a month.
Netflix currently offers two tiers in terms of subscriptions with the premium costing $13.99 a month and the lower tiers costing $10.99 a month with the only difference being the number of simultaneous streams that can take place from a single user account.
Netflix library of content is more developed as compared to the library of YouTube content therefore, at this moment it is a better value, however, it fails to offer the option of streaming music. Therefore, you will be left out in the cold if you do happen to pay to stream your music through services such as Spotify.
Spotify does offer free streaming services as compared to their premium paid services, which will run you $9.99 a month, which is streamed to your commercial-free.
YouTube premium, as mentioned earlier, can be used to stream commercial-free music, so it may make sense based on your usage to opt for YouTube premium to stream both music and video as compared to paying for Netflix and then Spotify.
To stream movies on Netflix or YouTube, high-speed internet is necessary. No one enjoys TV shows that fail to load due to a poor internet connection. So, to make the best out of your streaming services, you need to install a stable internet facility that is able to power HD resolution without any interruption.
So, instead of wasting your time and money on a poor connection, invest in a fast and reliable internet service like Spectrum Internet, which offers amazing internet speeds with an unlimited data allowance so you can conveniently stream all your favorite movies and shows without keeping track of your data usage.
I did get a chance to watch two of the YouTube Original series in their entirety and well they are comparable in production quality with story-driven memorable and loveable characters similar to those found in some Netflix Original production.
The two series that I did watch before I went back to binge on Season 3 of Sense 8 on Netflix were Impulse and Cobra Kai for which I have written summarized reviews without giving away spoilers.
Impulse is essentially about a 16 Teenage developing the ability to transport instantly from one location to another similar to what is shown in 2008’s Jumper. It is a bit of a smash between X-men, Stranger Things, and the movie Jumper revolving around an incident of sexual abuse. The series did have more teenage drama than I would have liked and the development and control of our main characters’ ability took longer than expected.
One thing that is made clear from the first episode and that our main villain/antihero isn’t the only one that has been gifted with the ability to transport herself from one location to another using black holes as the method of transportation.
The cliffhanger ending did leave me desiring a few extra episodes, but just a few more. The series does have the potential to be in x-men since at moments it did offer a similar feel to Marvel’s X-men.
We will have to see how the second season develops itself, therefore it is not a must-watch and you can wait until season 2 is released. The name itself suggested that the action would be heart pounding and quick in development, unfortunately, it was not.
I may have enjoyed Cobra Kai a little more than expected, the nostalgia and the quick fast-paced story reminded me of The Power Rangers. The result is good story writing and acting with a touch of nostalgia that made you want more.
Children and adults will enjoy the 27 some odd minutes each episode offers. The onscreen chemistry of all the actors just simply works. It was awesome for YouTube to cast the original actors from the 1984 movie while paying homage to Mr. Miyagi.
I did enjoy the fact that the episodes were short which allowed the storyline to evolve at a fast pace as compared to Impulse. The future of video content may just be short episodic television series since it is easier to digest as compared to an hour-long snooze fest when compared to Impulse.
