You know, at first I thought that I was either dreaming or that it was April the 1st today. Why? Because I just found out that there is a PC mod for the original version of “Resident Evil 1” that allows you to play through the whole game as Barry Burton.
Yes, you read it right the first time. That’s also why I thought that I was either dreaming or just seeing a very early April the 1st joke, but no, this mod is 100% legit.
As a matter of fact, Resident Evil – Barry’s Mod launched for PC on the 30th of June this Summer (the mod is made by Aydan Watkins), and version 1.6 is out right now (v1.6 was released just the other day):
“Resident Evil – Barry’s Mod. This modification to the PC version of Resident Evil allows you to play through the original game campaign as Barry Burton but with many changes to the game including new item and enemy locations, story and much more.” – Aydan Watkins
Neat indeed, but what does v1.6 of Barry’s Mod offer then? Well, here are some of the new features in the latest edition of the mod:
+ Play as Barry Burton
+ Completely re-written story cutscenes
+ Item locations changed
+ Changed zombie locations & attacks
+ New starting items
+ New title screen
+ New weapon sound effects
+ Changed photos on Item Screen & S.T.A.R.S Cards
+ Files have background images
+ Save screen now shows Barry’s name
+ Changed ending movies
In other words, quite a lot has been updated and added to the Barry’s Mod since it’s release in June (I wonder what the later editions of the mod will offer? Time will tell, but I’m super excited nevertheless).
You don’t have to take my word for it though, because you can watch over two hours of in-game footage in the video further down the page 😉
And with that said, what’s your take on Resident Evil – Barry’s Mod? And are you going to download and try v1.6?
