I know what you´re thinking right now “Oh great…here we go again. Just keep on giving us false hope about ever seeing Half-Life 3 anytime soon”. I fully understand why some of you would feel like that.
Because i´m one of them. I mean, it´s been like this since the release of HL2 EP2 (which was released back in 2007). And since then, there´s been so many rumors, fake statements, movies, quotes and such.
Sure, Valve has released some Half-Life 3 concept art pictures here and there over the years. But that´s all there is to it. And Gaben (Gabe Newell) has been very silent about HL3 for years now.
But, here´s the thing. Just recently a HL3 reference was found within DOTA 2´s workshop tools (UGC tools, see the picture above). And sometime next month Valve (and a whole gang of game engine devs) plans to showcase the future of video game graphics (game engines).
And i´m 99.9% sure that Valve will showcase the Source 2 engine on site. I should also point out that there was one more important thing to be found in the DOTA 2 UGC tools code.
And that would be the code line “physics_testbed.exe“. Because if you still remember all the early articles about Half-life 2 (before the game was even released).
Then you would probably also remember that Valve tried all kinds of physics experiments with the help of Half-Life 2´s source engine (the early version).
So, could this be it? Will Valve FINALLY showcase Source Engine 2 and talk about Half-Life 3? Sometime next month we will know for sure!
