I feel really sorry for Joystiq and their staff at the moment. Because not only have one of their editors just passed away (Andrew Yoon died at the age of 29, after a drowning accident in Austin, Texas), but the rumors about Joystiq closing down is true as well.
Because AOL is cutting down on costs, staff and services. So everyone at Joystiq have lost their jobs (this was confirmed by former Joystiq employee Alexander Sliwinski via Twitter just recently).
Sad indeed, but what´s even more tragic, is the fact that Joystiq celebrated their ten-year anniversary last year (Joystiq was formed back in 2004). So, yeah, it´s a really sad time for Joystiq.
But “hopefully”, most of the former Joystiq employees will find a job else where (at Engadget for example). I´m somewhat worried about the current rumors about Gametrailers closing down though.
Because that´s a page which i´ve been using for years (and still do). So, what do you guys think about Joystiq closing down?
