I have no idea how i could have missed out on this news piece (i´m online 24/7 pretty much). But apparently Overkill studios (and Starbreeze) are working on a The Walking Dead Co-op shooter.
And the name of the game would be “Overkill´s The Walking Dead” (the game is set for a 2016 release).
Great news right? Well, one would think so. I can only speak for myself of course. But many of the Pay Day (and TWD fans) are not so happy about this. In fact, if you check out the comments for Overkill´s The Walking Dead video.
You will find tons of negative comments. Most of them come from the Pay Day 2 community though. And why is that? Well, according to the Pay Day fans.
Pay Day 2 are a half done/broken product, that´s in desperate need of both patches and new content.
I think that´s pretty harsh and unfair critics though. And i think that the Youtube user “GeneralMcBadass” explained (said) it the best:
So what if they used Payday 2 mediums, it was all of you that fell for hype. Hype is so stupid in the gaming community and yet it ensnares so many people. How often has hype really lived up to expectations? You’re all probably hoping for new heists, new weapons, new infamy levels, all at the same time.
They will release this content when they’re ready and they announce it accordingly, on Tuesdays and then pushing out updates on Thursdays. You guys have to start learning to think realistically. I’m happy, this is pretty exciting and Overkill has a big opportunity here. I’m sure they’ll do it justice in the end.” – GeneralMcBadass
And in case you wonder what i think about Overkill´s The Walking Dead. I´m just going to say this. I´ll give it a fair chance, and i like the thought of having a TWD Co-op shooter. And “IF” it´s done right, it might actually become even better than the L4D series.
Press release:
Starbreeze AB, an independent creator, publisher and distributor of computer and video games, today unveils its new project, OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead, based on the hugely popular The Walking Dead series created by Robert Kirkman.
OVERKILL – a Starbreeze Studio, will deliver a completely new co-op experience to The Walking Dead universe, exploring new characters and storylines.
“The collaboration between Starbreeze Studios and our partner Skybound Interactive will deliver something uniquely exciting for our millions of fans. We’re two independents joining forces to create the ultimate survival horror game. With Robert on the team, we will bring The Walking Dead into the world of first-person shooter co-op games.” says Bo Andersson Klint, CEO, Starbreeze AB. He continues, “It will be gameplay focused, ferocious and bring chaos to the traditional industry model – from us developers straight to you. This time it’s big – don’t walk alone.”
“From day one on this project it’s been clear to me that this is the Walking Dead co-op action game fans have been waiting for. I can’t wait for people to learn just what OVERKILL has been cooking up for this game. Skybound is always about breaking new ground and trying to find something unexpected in all endeavors and this game continues that tradition in grand style.” says Robert Kirkman, CEO, Skybound Entertainment.
OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead will be powered by Starbreeze’s Diesel engine updated for the next generation. The title is set to release in 2016.
In 2016, Washington will fall. What will you do?
“Lmao, so many of you complaining that you waited all this time to get only a melee. Listen to yourselves, you had nothing to do but sit here and play with yourself and expect free content. This is an exciting announcement for Overkill as well as for us, it brings new opportunities and hopefully something very awesome in the future.
This is the same plague that infects steam forums, reddit, and any other discussion place. So many of you expect to be entitled to free things when they owe us nothing. Anyone complaining is being stupidly entitled and pretentious.
