Correction, Super Mario Bros. are 30 years old. Mario, on the other hand, is 34 years old. As “Donkey Kong” (Mario was called “Jumpman” in that game) got released back in 1981. I´m sorry for the confusion.

I hardly doubt that it was just a pure “coincidence” that Nintendo choose to release Super Mario Maker (Wii U) just three days before Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary (which would be on the 13th of September). As Super Mario Maker would work as a great tribute (of sorts) for Super Mario Bros. And not only that, the game has also brought together three generations of Nintendo Gamers (something of which I find to be rather cool). Anyhow, today (or yesterday in some parts of the world) is a very special day. Because 30 years ago to this day, Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. to the NES system (1985, on the 13th of September in Japan).

Super Mario Bros. was my very first NES game. And I was about 5 years old at that time. So yes, I died quite a lot when I played the first level of the game xD
And that´s the day that Nintendo changed the world of Gaming for all time. As Super Mario Bros. become Nintendo´s big breakthrough (Nintendo´s own Pac-Man). So Shigeru Miyamoto (Director, Producer and Designer), Koji Kondo (Composer, whom´s Super Mario theme song are known all over the world. Even The Beatles Paul McCartney recognizes and likes that song), Takashi Tezuka (Designer), Toshihiko Nakago and Kazuaki Morita (Programmers) created video game history together with Super Mario Bros.. For me (on a personal level), Super Mario Bros. change my views on games for all time. And shortly after I found out about Mario, I also discovered Metroid, Zelda and Castlevania as well. Another thing that´s worthy of a mention, is that Nintendo most likely saved the video game industry in North America (an industry crash which Atari got blamed for back in 1983) when they launched the NES console in New York in late 1985. So with that said, tons of congratulations to Super Mario on his 30th birthday!
And feel free to share your Super Mario Bros. memories with us in the comment section down below!
