I can´t say that it was pleasant to read about the downfall of Peter Molyneux and his (and studio 22 Cans) “Godus”.
Because i have been a fan of Molyneux since the early 90s (Syndicate, Populous, Dungeon Keeper, you name it!).
But not even i can turn the blind eye to the recent events with “Godus” and Peter Molyneux broken design promises.
Because it´s all over the place now. We´re talking about lies, apathy and a half done product (“Godus”). And it seems like it has taken its toll on Peter Molyneux.
As Molyneux stated the following to the press just recently:
“It’s over, I will not speak to the press again”
“I haven’t got a reputation in this industry any more”
But let´s be honest here shall we. Molyneux has been known for hyping all of his games for many, many years now. His also notorious for promising things which he can´t live up to in the long run.
However, i don´t know how many times Molyneux has been misquoted over the years. Or if all the statements in Rock, Paper, Shotgun´s interview with Molyneux is true.
But if everything is true, then it would make perfect sense why Molyneux has decided to keep quite from now on (no more talking to the press).
I don´t know if that will do any good though. Because the damage has already been done. I also don´t know if a free-to-play concept will be able to save “Godus” from an early death either.
One thing is for sure though, Peter Molyneux has messed things up really bad this time…
