***Update 3 – 2015-07-16 – 21:32 CEST***
There´s only about 30 hours left on Shenmue 3´s Kickstarter campaign now. So time is running out fast for Mr. Yu Suzuki and his team. Sure, Shenmue 3 is already home safe with 5.2 million dollars to its name. However, if I’m not wrong now, the original plan was to collect 10 million dollars? At least, I have a slight memory of seeing a lot of tweets about that. Anyhow, I have watched the new trailer for Shenmue 3, and I was really impressed by how beautiful the game is.
So if you want to help Shenmue 3 reach some of those extended goals on Kickstarter. Then you better hurry up, because the campaign will end in less than 30 hours!

***Update 2 – 2015-07-04 – 21:32 CEST***
I´m really glad to inform you guys and girls that mr Yu Suzuki and his team have now collected over 4,2 million dollars on Kickstarter! And not only that, there will also be a physical PS4 edition of Shenmue 3 (the PlayStation 4 physical reward was unlocked just recently on Kickstarter). So I think it´s safe to say that this Saturday (and 4th of July for that matter) has been really great so far =)
However, it remains to be seen if Suzuki and his team will be able to collect 10 million dollars (in-total) within 13 days from now.
PlayStation 4 Physical Reward Confirmed!
“Hello backers, Shenmue fans & PS4 gamers!
The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter proudly announces the addition of the PlayStation 4 Physical Copy Reward.
This is one of the most requested items on the list, and we are very happy to be able to include the Shenmue 3 PS4 Kickstarter Backer’s Edition as a Reward. If you are a Shenmue fan and PS4 gamer, this is the reward to have to commemorate the occasion!
PS4 Physical Copy Reward Details:
All backers pledging for a $60 Reward tier or higher, will have the option of a PS4 Physical Copy as their platform choice.
After the Kickstarter finishes, a survey will be sent out to backers in these tiers to confirm your choice of platform. Choose one of the following:
1. PS4 Physical Copy
2. PS4 Digital Copy
3. Windows PC Physical Copy
4. Windows PC Digital Copy.
Backers who have pledged for a PC Physical Copy will not need to adjust their rewards if they would prefer a PS4 Physical Copy instead.
Just a reminder, the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter will be offering only one copy of the game per backer (Trial Version excluded).
Thanks to all the backers for your comments and suggestions to help make this happen. Please keep your feedback coming by sending us a message through the “Contact me” button on the project page.”

Shenmue 3 Kickstarter Adds PS4 Physical Version for $60 and Many Other Rewards
***Update 1 – 2015-06-27 – 11:53 CEST***
Since there have been a lot of rumors and confusion over Sony´s involvement in Yu Suzuki´s Shenmue 3 project on Kickstarter, mr Suzuki decided to speak up about Shenmue 3, Sony and the Kickstarter money, and this is what mr Suzuki said to Gamewatch in an interview just recently:
Hold on to your hats though, as there’s more good news to be told! Because Yu Suzuki and his team did a 50 minute long Q and A live stream about Shenmue 3 yesterday! (you will find the full video interview down below!). So you should find all the answers that you´ve been looking for in that video =) As for my personal doubts about Shenmue 3 and Kickstarter, well, I feel much more confident in the project now (most of my questions and doubts were cleared when i watched the Q and A interview video).
So I wish mr Yu Suzuki and the Shenmue 3 the best of luck with their Kickstarter campaign (10 million dollars here we come!).
“Hello Shenmue Fans and soon to be Shenmue Fans! Yu Suzuki will be doing a Twitch stream on Friday, June 26 at 7:00PM PDT (Saturday, June 27 2:00AM GMT). There is lots of Shenmue to talk about, so look for the Twitch Channel link to be posted with the Update tomorrow. Until then!” – The Shenmue 3 team

————————————————-
It seems like I was not all that far of target when I wrote my opinion piece about Shenmue 3 four days ago (“Yu Suzuki´s Shenmue 3 has been funded on Kickstarter!“), as I had some really legit and worrying concerns regarding the risks and challenges for the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter project. I pointed out the following things for example:
1. The nr 1 reason why Shenmue 3 hasn’t been made before Is simply because Yu Suzuki has no clue about budgeting.
2. Yu Suzuki had a hard time to stay within the budget with Shenmue 1 and 2.
3. There “might” be a risk of a “Duke Nukem Forever” or “Broken Age” scenario (either It takes forever to finish the game, or the developers will simply continue to ask for more money even though they got fully funded on Kickstarter).
One should also keep In mind that Shenmue one and two cost a lot of money to make. In fact, the original game is said to have cost over 47 million dollars (according to mr Yu Suzuki himself). Each game also took quite some time to develop. So you don´t have to be a genius to understand that Shenmue 3 is going to cost a lot of money to make. Since Suzuki and his team aims to make Shenmue 3 just as good as Shenmue 1 and 2, and everything will be based in an open world environment as well (that´s a huge project of its own, and It´s really expensive as well, just ask Avalanche Studios about their game Just Cause 3).
So that´s why there´s a lot of rumors going around right now that the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign might actually be a pr-stunt by Sony. Because If you haven´t heard It yet, Sony is now officially backing the Shenmue 3 project financially, and that has made the backers of Shenmue 3 somewhat nervous (some backers and fans has even started to believe that the whole thing is nothing more than a big scam).
As the Shenmue 3 campaign “might” have gone from a “help us raise enough money, and we will make Shenmue 3,” to a “demonstrate interest” kind of Kickstarter campaign, just measure the interest among potential consumers within the Gaming community. Sure, there´s no guaranties whatsoever when it comes to backing projects on Kickstarter, that´s nothing new. Neither can I deny the fact that Shenmue 3 has collected over 3,4 million dollars on Kickstarter so far (and there´s still 27 days left on the Kickstarter campaign).
Even so, I´m still somewhat worried about Shenmue 3 to be honest. As there´s been quite a lot big Kickstarter scams over the years. So I don´t know about you guys and girls, but I don´t like the sound of all of this, as It gives me bad vibes…
