I have lost the count over how many times people have predicted that Blizzards “World of Warcraft” will die. Sure, it´s true that people have left Wow. But for the most part, people come back to play Wow again (at one point or another).
And keep in mind that Wow has been around since 2004. That´s almost 11 years ago (as Wow was released in November 2004). And that alone is a really impressive achievement.
But even so, people has started to talk about “the end of Wow” again. Why? Because of the Wow tokens (which launch with the 6.1.2 patch). As people are talking about “Pay to win“, “Chinese farmers from hell” and so on.
This is clearly very exaggerated reactions from the Wow community (just read the comments on the Wow forum). As many Mmo games has used (and still do) a similar system to the Wow tokens (games such as “Eve Online” for example).
So what is the “tokens” all about then? Well, it´s Blizzards way of in Wow. As you can buy tokens with real money to buy gold in Wow. controlling and legalizing the gold sales
As that will create a new kind of economy in the world of Wow. It´s also said that you will be able to trade in tokens for a month worth of game time in Wow.
Rumors also has it that Blizzard will set a price of 20 dollars for the tokens (for starter). However, the price will be regulated after supply and demand. In other words, the price will go up and down over time.
As for the tokens release date. The tokens will be available in the 6.1.2 patch which will launch in the next couple of weeks from now.
So, what do you guys think about the Wow tokens? And will you buy some?
