Today is a really great day for Tomb Raider, miss Lara Croft and Square Enix. Because the 2013 edition of Tomb Raider has now sold over 8,5 million units to this day.
And that makes Tomb Raider 2013 the most successful title in the Tomb Raider series so far. The game was not a huge success from the very start though.
In fact, Square Enix was not happy with the games sales on release back in 2013. As Tomb Raider 2013 missed it´s sell goal targets shortly after it´s release (even though it sold over 3,4 million units in just three weeks).
And it was the North American market that got blamed for the low sale numbers. However, things started to get better Tomb Raider 2013 over time.
And there was a sale boost once the game got re-released to PS4 and Xbox One back in January last year. And that probably helped Square Enix to reach the break even goal line during the very same month (January 2014).
So a huge congrats to Square Enix and Tomb Raider 2013!
