I don´t think that this came as a surprise to anyone really. As Gamers has complained about the F2P business model for years now. And it seems like EA has heard those rants, so they plan to shut down some of their F2P titles by mid-July this year (which would be about 90 days away).
And some of those F2P games would be titles such as:
– Battlefield Heroes
– Battlefield Play4Free
– Need for Speed World
– FIFA World
And if you just happen to be a “Star Wars: The Old Republic” fan. Then have no worries, as EA has no plans on shuting down Star Wars: TOR anytime soon. In fact, the game will probably grow even larger thanks to the upcoming story-driven game updates (which will be released later this year).
And this is what Patrick Söderlund (executive vice president of EA Studios) had to say about Star Wars: TOR:
“For instance, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a game that continues to have a very enthusiastic and growing player community,” “We have plans to introduce more new story-driven game updates to our Star Wars: The Old Republic players this year.”
And as for the dyeing (soon to be shut down) games, Söderlund added this:
“In more than five years since most of these titles launched, how we play games has changed dramatically. These were pioneering experiences, and we’re humbled that, over the years, so many of you joined us to enjoy the games and the community.”
“While we say farewell to these free-to-play titles in the next few months, we are always exploring new concepts and ways to bring great games to more players around the world.” – Patrick Söderlund, executive vice president of EA Studios
