I´m more than aware of the fact that Wargaming has had great success stories with their F2P games “World of Tanks” and “World of Warplanes,” but I had no idea (whatsoever) that WarGaming have been working on a new “Master of Orion” title. However, It´s true as Wargaming has been developing the fourth edition of Master of Orion (together with NGD Studios) ever since they bought the licence from Atari back in July 2013.
That´s “hopefully” great news for the Master of Orion fans. I am somewhat nervous though, since “Master of Orion 3” (Quicksilver Software, 2003) was anything but good. Which is rather strange, since both “Master of Orion II” (Simtex and MicroProse, 1996 ), and “Master of Orion 1” (SimTex, MicroProse 1993) were top-notch games.

I sure hope that Wargaming´s “Master of Orion” won´t be anything like Quicksilver Software´s “Master of Orion 3” (it´s a really bad game imo).
Then again, both “Master of Orion” 1 and 2 were developed by Simtex, while “Master of Orion 3” was developed by Quicksilver Software. So it remains to be seen if Wargaming and NGD Studios will be able to avoid the same mistakes that Quicksilver Software made in MOO3. Anyhow, this is what Victor Kislyi (CEO Wargaming) had to say on the subject:
“Master of Orion is a game that brings Wargaming truly back to its roots, not only as a company but also in how it influenced my personal interest in both games and making them. The series’ iconic gameplay has stood the test of time and working with NGD Studios to bring the series back to life is a truly exciting moment for the team.” – Victor Kislyi, CEO Wargaming
One of the co-founders of NGD Studios (Andrés Chilkowski) also wanted to share his thoughts about the new “Master of Orion” title (which they are working on):
“As longtime fans of the Master of Orion, the opportunity to help breathe new life into this acclaimed game has been a dream come true. While we’ve made many improvements overall to the game, we’re confident that its classic and addictive gameplay will appeal to gamers no matter if they played the game years ago or are now just experiencing it for the very first time.” – Andrés Chilkowski, co-founder of NGD Studios
That sure sounds really promising, and Wargaming and NGD Studios have also stated that they will add better graphics and menus to the game. There will even be famous voice actors and orchestrated music as well. As brilliant as this may sound, there´s no release date for “Master of Orion” (4) at this time. However, I wouldn´t be all that surprised if NGD Studios and Wargaming plan to showcase their “Master of Orion” game during E3 next week.
So are you guys/girls excited for the new “Master of Orion” title? And have you played any of the past MOO games?
