I am more than aware that Silicon Knights action/horror game “Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem” sold quite bad on the Gamecube (the game was originally released back in 2002). But the game itself is everything but bad, it´s actually really good. In fact, the game is a cult classic. And “Eternal Darkness” has established a loyal fan community since it´s release as well.

But 2002 wasn´t exactly yesterday. So the fans has been waiting a really long time for a new “Eternal Darkness” game. But the years just went by and now new game ever got released. But then hope stroke back in May 2013, as Denis Dyack (former Silicon Knight and Eternal Darkness producer) and Precursors games announced that they would Kickstarter a spiritual successor to “Eternal Darkness” (“Shadow of the Eternals” AKA “Eternal Darkness 2“).

Well, so far so good. The goal was set to $1,350,000 But Precursors games had to cancel their Kickstarter campaign in June 2013. As “Shadow of the Eternals” was nowhere near the Kickstarter goal (the game collected $128,000 in total). That failure did not stop Dyack and  Precursors games though.

“Eternal Darkness” is a psychological horror/Action-adventure for Game. The game was made by Silicon Knights and got released for the Gamecube back in 2002.

As they returned to Kickstarter after E3 in June 2013. And this time the goal was to collect $750,000 for “Eternal Darkness”. And, well. That Kickstarter campaign failed as well. Because the total sum was about $324,000 in August 2013. So “Eternal Darkness” was put on ice indefinitely. However, in October 2014 Quantum Entanglement Entertainment (Denis Dyack´s new studio) announced that the “Shadow of the Eternals” production has been resumed.

And here´s the thing. Nintendo has renewed the “Eternal Darkness” trademark name three times so far. And the latest renewal took place just recently. And when Denis Dyack spoke with Niche Gamer (over a two-part interview) it became clear that “Shadow of the Eternals” could be resurrected in one form or another in the future.

Denis Dyack and his formor studio Precursor Games failed twize on Kickstarter with their spiritual successor to “Eternal Darkness” (“Shadow of the eternals”)

Don´t hold your breath though. As Denis Dyack pointed out that there´s no nailed down release date or such for “Shadow of the Eternals” at this time. However, that was more than enough to start a chain reaction of speculations about “Shadow of the Eternals” to be, or not to be at E3 this summer.

“Rather than tease, I would just say that we believe in the project and we’re doing everything we can to see this project – and other projects – some of which are really great as well, get out there. We’ve got some big plans for the future, and we’re being very aggressive on some things, and we’re really looking forward to see how things roll out.” – Denis Dyack, Quantum Entanglement via Niche Gamer

But i have to admit that i´m quite excited nethertheless. As i´ve been waiting for a new “Eternal Darkness” title to happen for over 13 years time now.

So what do you guys/girls think about all of this? And are you just excited as i am?
